The soon to be released 6-Series Gran Coupe was first seen as a concept platform to showcase the new 6-Series Coupe styling, back in April of 2010. But then rumors and then design patent filings revealed that indeed BMW was going to produce a production version of the vehicle. Final confirmation came in the form of the first spyshots of the vehicle.

Today, we bring you the best quality spyphotos of the new 6-Series to date. The new photos reveal one very important feature. BMW has stayed true to the styling of the original concept, the production Gran Coupe is just as low slung and sleek in design as the original. There is no question that the Gran Coupe is designed to go head to head with the Mercedes Benz CLS. In my opinion, this new Gran Coupe bests the CLS in that its much more low slung and the new 6-Series interior is a true marvel. The only thing missing on this car compared to the original concept is the aggressive front fascia, which we hope is made available at some point, in the form of a sport or M-Sport addon.

Current expectation is for the Gran Coupe to hit showrooms in 2012 as a 2013 Model Year vehicle. Engine range is expected to be identical to the 6-Series Coupe.

First black prototype spied, new as of 7/11/11:

WOW! This looks amazing (for now, wait until I see it in real life). Way better than Audi A5 Sportback (or A7) or Mercedes CLS.

It's growing on me. It looks just as low as the coupe... Very sleek. The front end will be its downfall.

To sound more expensive and because of the styling. Mercedes even refers to the CLS as a "four door coupe."

Having a 5-series and 6-series sedan would be odd because the 6-series is a 5-series with less doors. They are simply releasing more models, who cares about the name?

Personally, I'd take the Gran Coupe over the F10 5-series.

Much better than the CLS... the CLS had that strange saggy rear end... this is just the beautiful 6-series with 2 additional doors. It's gonna look great!!

The 6er Gran Coupe is going to be at or close to $90k. Look at the pricing for the new 6-series for reference.

Price gap between a 5-series and this, will be huge.

This will be a really low volume car.

does anyone know how does this car compare to the 5 series in terms of weight and dimensions? Will we see an M variant?
Should BMW put the M6 GC in production what would you guys choose? This or the M5?

dang this looks bland compared to the A5 sportback or the cls. Why would anyone get this over the 5 series is beyond me. The 550 with mpkg kills this in every way unless you really need the sloping roof. The concept was 10 times better looking than this ...hope they make something like that for the 7 series.

Is it just me or does it look kind of feminine? Maybe it's the white. But I drive a white car, I'm not feminine

I believe they should make the front end look like that:

It looks sort of not finished otherwise...same like the 6 series coupe

i suppose it won't be heavier then the 5 series (if compared cars have the same powertrain), it terms of dimensions it's wider and lower, so it should drive like it's glued to the road

This will be BMW's top-of-the-line sporty 4D (7 series is too grandpa for some people) so I think it will sell quite well. It is classier than a Panamera, more modest than a CLS. The A7 will be its most similar competitor.

Great competition for the Jaguar XJ L (which is a beautiful car itself).

You mean massive body roll, a steering system that is not connected to the front wheels, and the engine note played through the speaker system?!?!?!?!
