So...

This last Christmas time/year (yea...I know I am a little late in posting this story! lol ), I went to Brussels to visit the Autoworld and a friend or two who live's in the area.

Autoworld had a very special (temporary)display of Porsche's most of which were on loan from the Porsche Museum's archives and Porsche of Belgium.

Before my trip to Belgium, I was talking to a good friend of mine @ChrisM135i and he told me I would really like this military museum near the NL/German border. So I put Oorlogsmuseum down on my "must see" places on my little adventure to Belgium. Chris told me it was like a Sinsheim(if anyone's been there) but in the NL and mostly US Military stuff from WWII. Chris was kind of being a little vague, in his words about this museum... he only said that "I would enjoy it". I was "all in" at that point!

As my GPS(Navi) guided me to the museum and I could see the meters counting down to my destination... I could not help but wonder IF I was in the right place. The museum is located in a residential area... small Dutch houses lining the narrow street. A semi wooded area coming up on my left... with a very small parking lot. The only military stuff I could see were some statues and a US WWII tank. And the model house. There was this cool small building that sold models - lots of them! I headed right for that place... looked around and then ask "where is the museum" ? I found out it was 300 meters into the "wooded area".

The "wooded area" was more like a weird park. Some high wire obstacle courses and bronze art-like things... then another few hundred meters and I could see the Museum. Once inside... it too was laid out kind of strangely. The Gift Shop and Cafeteria are the first things you see. Then off to the left were some tracked vehicles - so that was the way I started off. After a few tanks and artillery guns, they had a "resistance museum" when the German's occupied the Netherlands. This part of the museum was interesting but sort of "meh" to me. I thought Chris had pulled a fast one on me. So off I went, back to the gift shop... I was about to leave... but then I saw this George C. Marshal display, with a wax dummy of the man himself, standing in his "staff vehicle". I thought the display was nice, but I was still pissed at Chris! I came all this way for this? That was when I saw the "blue doors"...

To the right of the George C. Marshal display, were two blue fire proof doors. No sign, no nothing. So I went inside... and HOLLY MOTHER of... THIS was the mother load! Now I knew why Chris wasn't saying much about this museum!! This place was AWESOME!!! So many dioramas, mock ups of what it was like "in the theater" back in time during WWII. This museum had THE most US military weapons, vehicles and all things that go BANG! WHAT a museum!!! Heck they even had a B24 Mitchel bomber INSIDE the place! How cool is that!

Thanks. This museum was EPIC!! So many cool machines - and 85% of it was American stuff. That's rare over here. Most museums only have German "stuff", and when they do have American "stuff" its sitting outside rusting away while the German stuff is inside and dry.

Such a cool museum. More so because they had so many vehicles and "stuff" from the US forces during WWII. Most of the museums I've been to, over here have the German stuff inside and nicely displayed... while the American tanks(& stuff) sits outside rusting away.

More so because they had so many vehicles and "stuff" from the US forces during WWII. Most of the museums I've been to, over here have the German stuff inside and nicely displayed... while the American tanks(& stuff) sits outside rusting away. A cool museum to visit!
