Munich. BMW M is taking the digital customer experience to the next level. New in-car apps developed exclusively for BMW M customers deliver even greater excitement and enhance the driving experience for BMW M models and BMW M vehicles. Accessible via the central display, they provide additional, individually configurable digital BMW M views for increased personal value. The in-car apps “M Cockpit”, “M Drag Meter”, and “M Channel” are now available worldwide as part of the BMW Digital Premium Package for the new BMW iX3 with M Sport Package and M Sport Package Pro. In the future, customers of other BMW M models equipped with BMW Operating System X will also benefit from this new digital offering.

“The fascination with sporty and highly dynamic driving is what drives the BMW M brand,” says Sylvia Neubauer, Vice President for Brand, Customers, and Sales at BMW M GmbH. “Our new BMW M in-car apps give drivers even deeper insight into their vehicle and expand the range of possible uses. This makes the joy of driving even more tangible in everyday life.”

“M Cockpit”: detailed real-time vehicle information at a glance.

The “M Cockpit” in-car app provides BMW M drivers with comprehensive, real-time insights into their vehicle. It visualises a variety of values relating to driving dynamics, chassis, powertrain, and geodata, and offers a high level of customisation. Drivers can configure up to five dashboards for the central display, each showing real-time data tailored to their preferences.

“M Drag Meter”: Gentlemen, start your engines!

Designed for use on drag strips, the “M Drag Meter” in-car app incorporates gamification elements and presents longitudinal dynamics data quickly and transparently. It displays specific acceleration and deceleration values as well as the driver’s reaction time when sprinting from standstill, directly on the central display. GPS-supported speed and distance measurements form the basis of this functionality. With extension customisation options, this integrated performance measurement tool can be tailored to individual requirements. Drivers can view up to four measurement criteria and their results simultaneously on the central display.

“M Channel”: No more boredom! In-car entertainment powered by BMW M.

The BMW M in-car app “M Channel” provides entertainment for BMW M drivers and passengers during charging sessions or breaks. As the first BMW M in-car media channel, it offers a wide selection of high-quality, on-demand BMW M video content accessible via the central display. A preview section with video descriptions highlights the available content, which is presented with crystal-clear playback and immersive sound. The “M Channel” app features a broad range of how-to videos, stories, and motorsport content for M enthusiasts, as well as information on other BMW M offerings such as the BMW Driving Academy.

My BMW app expansion: introducing the BMW M Community for GEN M.

BMW M is further advancing its digital ecosystem with the integration of the BMW M Community into the My BMW App. BMW M customers gain access to exclusive benefits within the community, including unique products, special events, select partner offers, and premium BMW M content. Members can also connect directly with one another and exchange ideas. The integration aligns with the GEN M brand campaign, the emotional home for those who live motorsport and high performance. At launch, all BMW M drivers in Germany with M High Performance or M Performance vehicles from model year 2014 onward, provided they are connected to the My BMW App, will have access.

Agree; bring back some buttons, leave one dash for the apple carplay/android auto and save the money on the gimmicky apps.

They are literally turning vehicles into PlayStations on wheels. Pathetic while all the good stuff is left on the table. Seems like my F90 will not get replacement for longer then expected or the replacement will come from different manufacturer.

Funny that this “M Performance App” is being launched in a non-M model, rather an “M-Sport” version of an all electric vehicle. Feels like the marketing and tech departments at BMW were like “I have a great idea” and somehow convinced the higher ups this would be the “right customers” to use these apps. I’m not sure why they wouldn’t release this on an actual M car which is more likely to have owners who actually care about the features delivered in these apps.

I am sure BMW will miss your once in a decade purchase of a BMW. They'll probably go bankrupt without that once in a decade purchase of a BMW.

"Gen M" hurts. But at least it has 20% more Zazz!

"You’ve heard the expression “Let’s get busy”? Well, this is a Gen M that gets biz-zay consistently and thoroughly!"

– BMW Marketing, probably

But seriously, most of this is fine and some of it is cool. But the Gen M and channel thing are kinda silly.

More data on a performance vehicle is always a plus. Wish I didn’t have to buy a garmin for track use and that my $100k modern m3 had the capability to do the same thing out the box. I don’t understand the hate, but I also don’t understand which models will get this. If it excludes actual M lineup, then I’m on the hater bandwagon

100%

And to take that one step further, why not introduce these apps (or some of them) to EXISTING M customers. THAT would be a loyalty inducing gesture.

As a software architect, this is completely possible even for older iDrive OS versions. They obviously chose to restrict it to only new cars.

Let’s stop with this nonsense and start with making the on board cameras live dash cams that can be used while racing and everyday driving. Enough with this gimmicky nonsense.

I'm totally down for if BMW can come up with a solution to replace my Garmin Catalyst with in-car cameras and sensors. But it has to be just as good as the Catalyst.

I want to record my laps and review them later to see where I can improve. Displaying real-time data is completely useless.

I agree with you, but we are the minority. Think of this: the entry level BMW customer (say X1, X2 or 2 or 3 series) was born in the late 90s or early ‘00 and doesn’t realize there was a world before anything digital, Wi-Fi virtually everywhere and Amazon Prime 2Day or less delivery of basically whatever you want. Further, even the “car” guys and girls no longer desire manual transmissions or legendary N/A BMW straight six’s(maybe even V8s). They are all about the outcomes: fastest time from A to B or some other attribute that’s deemed desirable. BMW probably realized that it’s no longer about process of “getting there” in their car which built their reputation. Today it’s about getting there w/ utmost convenience, and thus we have these ridiculous apps.

While I agree, there is not yet an M car to release this app on. Why didn't they just wait, until at least the M60 is being released.

They can't even make the current software work so that my CarPlay connects and/or works every time I start the car. I have to reset iDrive at least 3-4x/week. Add to that the awful "auto" climate control that doesn't turn on my heated seat when the temps are in the 30s. I want less software nonsense, not more I'm never going to use.
