Warranty repairs
Finally took my car in because the vibration when braking at higher speeds became intolerable. The dealer turned all of the brake rotors and replaced all of the pads. Also replaced front thrust arms. All under warranty!

I didn't think anyone machined rotors anymore. Seems like they all toss and put new ones in.

Yeah, I’m a little surprised that they turned them too. Even 30 years ago when I was at Jaguar they wouldn’t let us do it. In fact, when Ford purchased us they made us turn in every “faulty “ part, rotors included.
Now, when I took my Mazda in for service, they did turn them right on the axle. That method is certainly better than the old brake lathe. |

It's actually a standard BMW procedure, they have an on car lathe for this if the rotor thickness is within spec.

Years ago when I had my 645 in for service the SA said I needed new brakes all around. I said ok do it. 20 minutes later he came back and said he didn't realize it was under Warranty and they couldn't do it until they were down to 2 mm. I said you told me I needed brakes but because I am not paying suddenly I don't? It took a call to BMW but they put new brakes all around. I never saw that SA again.

That’s interesting. I remember back in the 70s, they turned the rotors on my dad’s Buick Estate Wagon. They let me watch. And then 30 years later, when it was time to get the brakes done on my 2005 e46, the mechanic laughed when I asked if they couldn’t just turn the rotors. Said ‘We don’t do that anymore.’ Well now I guess they do. The circle of brake life.

Wow that's pretty good. I was having the same issue, just been dealing with it... but didn't even bother to get them replaced under the warranty.
Ended up buying new rotors and pads, for the front. And installing this weekend. |
