265/35/20 - 305/30/20 on M5 wheels
I need to order new tires for this summer, and am thinking of stepping up my game to 265/35/20 front and 305/30/20 rears on my M5 343M wheels. Just a touch wider than the 255/35/20 and 295/30/20 tires I have been running. the 255/35 and 295/30 tires are both exactly 27" tall. The 265/35 is 27.3" and the 305/30 is 27.2" tall, so off by 0.1", well within the 1% recommendation.
Has anyone else run a slightly taller tire on the 6 series??? Any experiences to share?

I would be worried about the rear wheel sticking out too far from the rear fender.
I also think it will depend a lot on the tire you choose However, I don't see a clearance issue on stock suspension with that height. Rubbing on the hand.... |

Upstate,
on my older RWD lexus, i tried all sorts of different tire sizes and never truly experienced an issue, though some people will certainly freak out over manufacturer tolerances being ignored. i tried 255/30/20, 255/35,20, 265/30/20, 265/35/20, 275/30/20 and laughed at an attempt to go 275/35/20. but for all intents, i never worried or noticed a real-world tangible problem trying all the different sizes to get the look i wanted. i'd say that so long as the clearances are good, give it a shot (says the guy in RWD cars, not any x-drives) |

its a little bit wider, but i don't think rubbing will be an issue on the 343m wheels, unless upstate is riding quite low? i'm pretty low, so i rub all day, to the point i had to shave my backpad and took a dremel to some panels to cut away a little material here and there. but if i were stock height, i'd be golden except for the big dips probably. but like you said, the tires make a massive difference, especially when my clearances are in millimeters |

Thanks for the input, everyone. Im certain I have enough room in the front. Rear will be a touch tighter, but it only .2 taller, so only .1 taller on any given side. Overall tire width is .4 wider than the Michelin PS4 that some people have run without issue. Tread is a bit wider than that compared to the 295 tire I had before. Looking for a touch more sidewall height to help close the wheel gap. I am on stock suspension. Frankly, my biggest concern is tire bulging beyond the wheel well. Anyone run 295 PS4 tires on an M5 343 wheel? The 305 continental is very similar in width to the Michelin 295.
Lots of M5 guys run 305 tires on the M5 343 wheels so Im not worried about that aspect, only whether it will rub and whether tire willl poke beyond fender. I know the wheel doesnt. |

I got PSS and it is quite wider/taller/squarer than all my prior tires, so it will totally help you get that flush look, though i can't comment on overall fitment of course. For my own needs, I'll never buy PSS again because it was too wide

Correction on the relative section width of the tires I am considering:
Continental extreme contact 295/30/20- 27lbs, 11.9 section width, 10.7 tread width. Michelin 4S 295/30/20 - 29lbs, 11.9 section width, 11.1 tread width, Continental extreme contact 305/30/20 - 30 lbs, 12.3 section width, 11.1 tread width. @bravo261 - why do you say the PSS was too wide for your needs? Can you explain what you mean? |

the shoulders are the PSS are quite square compared to other tires, notably my last set of Toyo T1Rs and Pirellis. I lowered my car, took it to a wheel manufacturer to measure up, and ordered wheels that sit pretty flush.
I then ordered the same-sized PSS, and the sidewalls go up much straighter than the other tires, so the sidewalls rubbed the living s**t out of the body and now i'm getting ready to drop it off for painting and repair. I'm not saying the tread width isn't as stated, but the shoulders will matter to those that get into the details of fitment |
