Front Brake Rotors
When did you have to replace your steel front rotors, approximately what mileage?
I'm at about 38K miles on my '13 m6 and recently have noticed quite a bit of brake fade. The car has not seen the track just some spirited driving. My car is still under full factory warranty and maintenance plan with bmw till March of '18, do you think the dealer would replace them under the maintenance plan? |

yes it does.
to the OP, good luck getting it covered unless the pads are worn to the specified mm. Apparently, they used to be pretty loose with replacing them early to address possible brake issues, but BMW is cracking down now. This is what I was told when I pushed to get mine done early at my last visit.

The base service/maintenance plan for BMW used to include brakes/rotors, but in early 2016 BMW announced that they would shorten the service program and exclude wear items effective with 2017 models. They reduced the 4 years/50K miles down to 3 years/36k miles, and excluded some wear items like brake pads, rotors, belts, manual clutches, etc. So, brakes/rotors are no longer covered on 2017 models and later. Fairly major cost savings for BMW considering that most drivers would use up front brakes/rotors within the first 50k miles, and get a new free set. A bit of a bitter pill if you want to buy a new BMW and keep it for 4- 6 years (rather than lease).

Personally I think there is some type of abnormal wear happening because I get a bit of brake shudder/wobble when initially braking from high speeds then the brakes start to fade and keep in mind this all just from normal/spirited driving. Also I noticed a lip on the edge of the rotors too. |

There was a bulletin (even out of warranty/service they fix it) for my 14 M6 GC. Something along the lines of foreign compound in brake pads cause more noise and score rotor. They replaced pads and rotors free of charge.

I have noticed on top of everything else that the brakes are squealing a lot more at low speeds coming to a stop even after totally cleaning the wheels/brakes. |
