Buying an M6 - Help with options!
Hi guys
The time has come to chop in the e60 M5 and go for an M6 (used not new) but some of the options are driving me nuts. I will be going for a 2 door coupe. Firstly - Leather what is the deal with colour coding? I've been searching google and this forum for answers and people have been talking about full vs extended etc. but its not really helping. Why do some cars have the centre console colour coded round to the passenger footwell and others don't? I want to go with silverstone leather but it seems only the minority of cars i find have this colour coding, usually its black and doesn't look as good. When i go on the BMW website to 'build' one this centre console is always colour coded and the only leather options are either full merino leather or individual full merino leather, there is no full/extended option and the only difference seems to be colour. Have there been any changes to upholstery options between 2013-2015? it seems only the newer ones have this additional colour coding see examples below Secondly - Competition pack does this make the ride uncomfortable? the model i test drove didn't have it so i couldn't tell but the only complaint i would have about my M5 is that even with the EDC set to the softest setting its still a little hard for my liking when I'm driving round the poorly surfaced roads in town. Is there any difference between the competition exhaust and the aftermarket akrapovic? is there an option for active side bolsters? Thanks in advance |

The 'full' leather has that colour curve going up into the passenger area. With black leather it isn't as obvious from the pictures but the dash is a sort of plastic/vinyl with the extended leather option. Full is what you want!
Comp Pack is going to make the suspension harder so if you thought standard E60 M5 is a bit hard then maybe stay away! The Comp exhaust is just black tips really, the Akrapovic is quite a bit lighter and louder, so maybe the best option if you like exhaust noise. |

The full eather became standard in 2015 in the UK. Back in 2014 this was a £5635 option. here's the july '14 price list
http://www.bmw.co.uk/dam/brandBM/mar...st_July_14.pdf Because of that price, it was rarely chosen, hence why none currently on the UK second hand market have it, apart from the 2015 models which had it as standard. If you go to the BMW USA site, you still get "extended" as standard and have to pay $3500 extra for the full leather. Last edited by MrLOL; 02-08-2016 at 08:04 AM.. |

Comp package is stiffer then nails! Even in regular comfort mode. The power has nothing to do with anything once you tune.
I was fortunate enough to have the M6 with the German Press tune. |

I haven't driven CP vs regular back to back, but I've seen many posts complaining about the mushy handling of the normal M6, whereas with the CP suspension, set to 3 it handles very nimbly and precisely (almost like my M3). Personally on setting 1 it's too soft/loose for me. I guess it really depends what you're used to and what your'e wanting. Comfy luxury car, maybe no CP, but if you're wanting some inner sports-car-beast-mode, CP suspension is really nice IMHO.

On Comfort, not at all, but it's a personal preference. I would recommend attending a local meet or find a CP M6 and see for yourself.

I have non CP and have driven CP of this guy ^^^ C5driver before he had a chance to test drive his car lol
according to comfort, there is no huge difference in ride however CP has stiffer suspension and revised sway bar plus remapped MDM. As far as exhaust, the CP has different muffler beside the black tips so basically has different exhaust note.

Akra exhaust makes this machine crazy for sound so much so I think I wasted money on the B&O sound ...
