Quality custom steering wheel
Does anyone know a place that makes/sells quality custom steering wheels?
And quality means that the heated wheel function works AND the drivers assistance stuff too. I bought one from Vivid. It is beautiful. I was told it works perfectly with all functions. Midway through install I’m told the carbon fiber wheel doesn’t have the connection/padding for the heated wheel. Ok I’m in AZ so fine. I pick up the car and it looks gorgeous albeit without the heated wheel function. As I get on highway I press drivers assist and suddenly the steering wheel lights flash red like when you don’t touch the wheel for a while and the symbol showing to put your hands on the wheel are flashing, and then it just says drivers assist not working. It’s obvious that it’s missing maybe the touch capacitors when they shaped the carbon fiber or whatever and thinks there’s nothing touching the wheel . I am so fed up with this BS company lying to me causing stress, labor costs, etc for nothing. If this sounds familiar to anyone please advise the problem and where to get one where EVERYTHING works! |

I recently had a great experience with Exclusive Steering. I was able to customize the wheel how I wanted, retain the heated function, and they informed me that the hands-off sensor would be damaged when the original leather was removed and offered me a solution. They sold me a module that bypasses the hand detection similar to this: https://bimmer8.com/products/bmw-hod-emulator?lang=en

What vehicle do you have? I have a wheel from Monaco Motorsports in my wife's X3MC & a wheel from Cvrbonized in my M2.
Monaco Motorsports was great to deal with an no issues with the wheel. Cvrbonized was a pain, sent me a poor quality wheel then took 4 more months to get me a new one with every excuse in the book. Now the heating function stopped working. I'd also recommend saving yourself a bunch of money by just swapping the steering wheel yourself. It's a very easy DIY project that can be done in under an hour. Monaco Motorsport on top, Cvrbonized below. Last edited by JABCAT; 01-09-2026 at 10:09 AM.. |

My car is a 2020 M8CGC. Hey guys thank you both for your recommendations. I looked at both places and neither company offers a wheel where everything works (DAPP & Heated wheel) without additional parts/coding. I guess im going back to stock; at least the magnetic paddles work. Thank you. Last edited by D52M550; 01-09-2026 at 12:01 PM.. |

I’m done with wheels and all the BS companies claiming this or that yet the shit doesn’t work. Or just buy another part to trick the car thinking you’re holding the wheel…forget that. Who knows the ramifications of doing that if you’re in a car accident. Just gonna put the original where back on with the magnetic paddles.

Anything other than MPerf or a custom made wheel is just a Chinese/alibaba special being resold by a vendor at huge markup. They also look pretty terrible, in my opinion of course.

I like the wheel in my M2 just as much as the custom wheel in my Z06, and the M2 wheel was 1/3 the cost. |

Thank you all for your input, recommendations, and advice. I am trying to find MPerf wheel for M8 but can’t seem to find them, only ones I find are M2/3/4.
If you know where to find them for M5/8 please send me the link. Thanks! |

Not sure if it retains all the functions you want it to though, may want to double check that. Another option is buy a second wheel from someone who’s swapped to something else, and use that wheel to make a custom one retaining all functionality. |

Great looking wheels. I like the look of the perforated leather on sides - is it hard to keep it clean?

On that on (from Monaco Mororsports) the wheel is too thick and the groove at 3 & 9 too pronounced. I don't care for it when I drive her car. Mine is the same thickness as the oem M2 wheel. |

For those looking for a custom wheel, give Coby Wheels a try. I have had two wheels wrapped by them, and their prices are outstanding. https://cobywheel.com/

I upgraded my Sport wheel to an M Sport wheel, the seller on eBay is in Lithuania and it is wrapped in Napa Leather. It's been nearly three years and I'm still happy with it. I have an alcantara shift boot from Coby Wheels and can recommend them, they require a core on their steering wheels like for like.

Several years ago, I invested in a Leather/Alcantara steering wheel for my E63 AMG, and it still looks phenomenal today thanks to regular, proper cleaning. Likewise, the Coby wheels on both my F80 and F85 have retained their pristine appearance over the years, again due to consistent care. Alcantara is an incredibly durable material that can maintain its beauty for years when treated correctly. Unfortunately, neglect often leads to unnecessary wear, proving that diligence in maintenance truly makes all the difference.

I bought a custom Mercedes steering wheel from an eBay seller in Latvia, but the original shipment vanished after reaching DHL in Chicago. Without hesitation, the seller built a replacement and rushed it to me via 2-day shipping. This experience, along with my time working with Coby Wheels, highlights how accommodating these makers can be. When I bought my F80, Coby even waived the core charge and gave me a month to return my original wheel until I took delivery of the car. It goes to show that many of these creators are truly willing to go the extra mile for their customers.
