I feel the grill stripes get a pass. Nobody is putting them on to try to get people thinking their car is an M car.
They just add a bit of flair to what is probably a gray/white/silver car that can use it.

I have had a hair across my ass about tri-colored grill stripes for 20 years. No pass for me. Definitely not in the poser category, but more in the cheeseball, fuzzy dice, tank top, guido, gold rope chain category. A BMW with grill stripes is definitely not being driven by an enthusiast or they would know what a faux pas it is to put them on.

Only m-lites and above can have grill stripes; your 318d doesn’t need them.

Funny thing is I had a girl I worked with who raced a BMW and had grill stripes on her daily M3. So once again, maybe it's just the badge Nazi's making much ado about nothing!

IMO the grill stripes on any model are a major faux pas and look cheap AF but you do you.

Haha basically my point of view.

She's been talking about these stripes since we visited the dealership to test drive the car lol. I don't know where she first saw them.

I guess I probably shouldn't tell people here I'm planning to order the cool looking mirror caps that come on ///M cars 🤣

My car says

X2 M35i.

Since it has quad exhuast from the factory, I really want to delete the "35i" emblems, move the M closer then add "xDrive" on the right like this:

X2M xDrive

I then realized it sounds like crap which I'm not afriad to admit. Didn't do it...

That would be a fake badge.

I'm sure most of you know what PONTIAC stands for...When I was stationed in Long Beach, one of the "brothers" had a mid 80's Pontiac(not sure what model), he debadged that thing and rebadged it with CADILLAC badges

In the eyes of the badge police here... yes!

Hell, they would probably give me $h!+ for having my M license plate frame. For the record, my M-Sport package car came from BMW with more than 10 M logos.

I thought about doing what you are thinking, but ultimately debadged the car instead (other than of course the BMW emblems)

I don’t see the point in placing fake badges. But I don’t think this thread has someone that believes in that. M stripes on the grill? Don’t like that either but if you like it, heck, go for it, it’s your car.

Prolly.

But here's the deal:
When you're dead and gone not a single person will ever walk up to your grave and say "hey, thanks for doing it my way".

I actually think that ///M marker looks good. Especially on a darker color.

+1 to bucketfoot M-Sport comments above.
(my favorite M-Sport factory ///M location is the one on my dead pedal)

Heck, on the (F10), BMW moved the turn signal from the side markers up to the side mirrors when they did the LCI face lift. Then they filled the hole with a dummy side marker that serves no purpose.

Now that, should be considered fake badging...lol

come to think of it, I want to do it as a protest. BMW AG or BMW USA callously decided that we Americans do not deserve to have the "M" fender badges when identical BMWs everywhere else in the world have the "M" fender badges standard(M cars or M Sport package) It's not on any BMW cars/SUVs sold in the US, even if you are willing to pay for it.
