Maintenance Recommendations
Im taking my car to the dealer today for the routine maintenance and wanted to find out if there is anything else i should have done. Its a 2014 with 36k miles 650i xdrive convert. I know thats not a lot of miles, but it is getting up there in years so any reason to change the trans fluid, coolant, etc?
thanks |

Your dealer may actually refuse to do the tranny fluid. They will says it's lifetime. You could wait until 50k to do that, although I think ZF, the tranny maker, says 60k or 8 years. Its' hard to say if you should have anything else done since you don't say what you are having done. Brake fluid flush? My main question is why you pay dealer prices for routine maintenance.

Ditto Opie55...even though you have low mileage...the brake fluid goes by a "timed" interval due to it absorbing moisture. And BMW may tell you that the tranny & coolant are lifetime fluids...but if pressed may change them (at least the coolant) at YOUR expense.
![]() You don't say if you've changed or had someone change any of the filters (engine air, hvac fresh air & recirculation pollen micro-filters). If you have any mechanical skills & a few tools...you could easily change all of the "air" filters and save a bunch of money.

I haven't noticed much of a difference in price at Indy vs. Dealer. They both use certified mechanics and BMW parts. The Indy is maybe $10-$20 an hour less. But you don't get a latte and a receptionist with large breasts. I don't have the interest, knowledge, or time for DIY. If you can afford $100K plus car you can afford the $130 oil change.

Its not about saving money but rather getting the dealership to do what i ask. Like i said earlier, they didnt want to do the oil change at 8500 miles so i didnt even ask about the trany fluid or coolent change.
