650i oil pan for cheap
My oil pan get ruined and i need to buy a new one but not trying to spend a few grand on it. Is there any comparible oil pans that are cheaper or does it make sense to find a used one online? or should i just bite the bullet and buy a new one from the dealership?

Although I have not looked, I doubt there are any aftermarket oil pans. You could probably get a used one as long as all the seals etc. get replaced. But I would not buy it from a dealer in any event. I can't speak for Canada, but in the US it is typically way cheaper to buy an expensive part online, even though you are often buying from a dealer that sells online. Plug the last 7 places of your VIN into RealOEM.com and find the right part, then Google the part number and you'll find lots of sellers.

I just looked, and the upper oil pan is about $1,000 US, although some eBay seller has them for $815. But that's the big part the drive shaft goes through. If all you need is the bottom lower cover, that is about $440 US. If you need both, it will be about $1,400 US.

thanks sm man! dealership quoted the pan at 1500 cad today and wouldn't be able to install for a week if my pan is indeed ruined. Saved me nearly $750 and probably a few days without my car since im just going to take it to my main mechananic

real oem for lower pan shows this and im assuming it is the first part number "11137570694" (link: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...67#11137570694) then found this on ecs tuning: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...n/11137570694/ would that be the correct part for the lower oil pan that has the drain plug? |

If the plug is really stuck and you want to reuse the pan instead of getting a new one, they should be able to drill out the old plug after removing the pan from the engine. Even if they get a little off center they can always use a timesert to repair the hole.
I had to install a timesert in my pan on my N55 due to the previous shop overtightening the plug and damaging the threads. |
