Pre LCI Side Mirrors vs LCI Side Mirrors
Couldn't find any specific info on this, but is the only difference the turn signal built in?
I'm looking to purchase a set of mirror covers and the one I want are only for LCI (2014+), I have a 2013. Was wondering if the dimensions/shape are identical. I'm hoping they are and if I get those covers that the only gap would be where the turn signal would be. Would appreciate any info, thanks! |

Hey itz, I don’t think so. I read a bunch of posts yesterday, and looked at the design of the caps a little. I believe the differences are more than the cutout, but the clips are different as well.
https://www.6post.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1587153037 From Junebug’s thread shows the LCI cover clips, go straight forward and back, you would unclip it pulling straight forward. These pre LCI covers: https://www.ebay.com/i/302919694169?...hoCxCAQAvD_BwE (You can also find in gloss black) show the clips arranged so you would lift straight up to unclip it. Or to remove with out damaging, there’s a 5er post that shows how you remove the mirror assembly first and use tools to release the clip as designed, without risk of breaking them, and then pull up. I think as PreLCI owners, our options are carbon fiber or black replacement cap, or more easily & cheaply just vinyl wrap what we got. I’ve looked and looked and can’t find m style preLCI covers, sucks. |

Seriously, I just don’t get it. The m style looks so good, (even though the M6 stock mirror caps aren’t “M style” lol), I don’t get why all the m style are for LCI .

I've been looking into the mirror caps also for my pre lci. I have found some for the pre lci gloss black. I attempted to wrap them a while ago and it was a mess! |

I hate to be a bubble burster, but don’t think those are compatible with our preLCI 6ers, just 5’s. Ours has a flat bottom on the upper half of the cover, and (I believe but haven’t removed to verify) clips that engage vertically up and down.
You can see those 5 series covers have clips that engage forward and back. I have seen products that look like that and list f06, f12 f13 as supported, but I just don’t think it’s the case. If you figure out how to make those work though, let us know! They do look good |

https://dryzanestore.com/collections...ts/mirror-caps Came across these... Shape is a bit different to the M ones but similar? "Handcrafted Mirror caps made for the BMW 6 series from 2012 without the flashing lights."

It’s not strange because “model year” and the “year an option debuts” can be two different things. A model year has a SOP (start of production) and EOP (end of production)...and in most cases...the new model year starts in the year of the preceding model year. Traditional (in the US market)...September used to be the roll out month of the new model year...but for various reasons...the SOP of a new model year can occur early or late. The “facelift” for the f06/f12/f13 is the 2016 model year...but doing a quick internet search for the start of production for the 2016 model year...it was an EARLY roll out. The 2016 model year’s SOP was 3/2015. So this is how the new mirrors with “blinkers” debuted in 2015...but they appeared on the 2016 model year. In the USA...you can also tell the official model year (regardless of the build date) by the 10th digit of the VIN. It is a DOT (department of transportation) requirement for all car manufacturers. Examples of 10th VIN digits are:
See page from the 2016 ordering guide below...take note of the red and green dates circled which indicates the model year and the SOP for the 2016 model year. This should clear up the confusion...and also reveal that its not a mistake...but only a misunderstanding of the terminology used where “debut year” was misinterpreted as “model year”.
