Speed Limiter ?
I have a '14 M6 CP. I've done a Turner axle-back race exhaust/muffler delete, and a Turner piggie-back chip.
AFAIK the car has a speed limiter at 155, and while I've been up in that territory a fair bit, I never pushed that number to see what would happen. Let's assume that someone who isn't me, for the sake of argument, found himself coming to work before 5 AM and found the roads completely empty, and kept the pedal down a bit longer than normal on a certain straightaway. Let's assume that same fellow was quite surprised when the digital speedometer happily ran right up past 155, and in fact made it all the way to 166 before the upcoming road conditions made braking prudent. Now I could see the speed limiter kicking in at say 156 instead of 155, but I was quite surprised that the car pulled happily to 166, and seemed like it would keep going if only the road permitted. Thoughts? Am I crazy? |

ive hit 180 and my palms were getting sweaty. its a scary. however good the brakes on the car are, mine are CB, the stability of this car at high speed is not secure. too much body roll I had.

Do you have the CP suspension? My car feels rock solid at these speeds but I have the CP suspension (and keep it set to Sport)

"My friend" has seen the same numbers on his '12 non-CP with no mods.

So what's the story with the 155 MPH limiter? Does it not exist? Is it some higher number "my friend" hasn't hit yet?

The stock limiter always used to allow 166/167 mph speedo indicated for me.

Hmmmm, mine stopped me at 156. Pulled strongly into the peg, then stopped.

Opened mine up on a derestricted short straight in fourth gear to see what it would pull to redline, it hit 146 and surprised me how stable it was .I can understand how they are autobahn killers.

Your speed limiter has a built-in error by law to intentionally show the vehicle speed more than the actual one. this will prevent any miscalculation if you use the slightly bigger size tire with more circumference (ie 305/30/20 instead of 295/30/20)... don't be surprise to see 16x mph on speedo which is normal. Always rely on GPS only
The actual speed limiter is 155 mph and there is another speed limiter on transmission which is 186 mph for M driver's package which is not available in US

I maxed out around 169/170mph on the heads up display before acceleration diminished... Seemed like the car could go faster?
