Patek

Like the style but don't even get me started on the Patek fan boys. They are worse than the M3 lot

I went straight to Cartier on Bond Street London, they just don't care.

yeah i am with u... the amount of engineering that goes into a watch vs say a vehicle that has to meet DOT safety standards, has to perform and be reliable is not even comparable...

I can see how people can like expensive watches but IMHO, paying over $10K for a watch is completely bonkers.... even if you have money raining down on you. Dont think I could ever rock anything more than a submariner.

Unless I missed it, how has U-Boat not been mentioned yet? Entirely disgusting watches, does anyone disagree? Worn on the wrist they look even worse, which is almost unbelievable because they're so awful off. This a watch not even a pro-wrestler-slash-porn star can pull off.

48-55mm of some designers steampunk fantasy and shockingly priced like an actual timepiece. What the hell are all those levers even for, blowing the ballast tanks and firing torpedoes at baristas?

Yet, people pay 4+ figures for these gilded hockey pucks.

This is a topic I could go for days on, but if there was a sub-genre it would be specialty watches, I'm a fan of Hublot, AP etc, but I have a hate for their "Lebron James, Messi, Brazil" and so on. Thats where they lose me, I think that they should keep to making beautiful watches that made them so popular. These one-off pieces look tacky. Thats just my $0.02

I'm in the watch trading business and (son of) a watchmaker.

U Boat...and Hublot a bit. But since they work with my fav brand Ferrari that has changed a bit.

My fav brands are IWC(started with a Portofino back in '94), Rolex(since 2000) JLC and Audemars Piguet(had a RO and ROO before)

Holy grails atm new IWC Timezoner, Patek Aquanaut on rubber, IWC MkXII and Zenith EP 1969 (any also vintage ones)and Panerai PAM 74(with EP movement)

I was Off Zenith dealer till 2003...

Cheers
Robin

Just came across this thread... was going to say Hublot, AP, and Richard Mille, but you all beat me to it. All are amazingly ugly to me and I cant understand why someone would put the money out for them... but then again, people buy men's christian loubotin shoes too.

Interesting to see some hate against Breitiling... They may be a bit overpriced, but are a very good flying watch, so I like them for utility.

Someone needs to do a list of under appreciated / value proposition brands... right now I'm intrigued by a few German manufacturers that would fit that category handily (Lange, Sinn, Stowa, etc)

The AP Royal Oak is pretty grim IMO.
The choice of the loud mouthed sales "geezer" who wants to flash the cash.

This looks like a £40 Chinese attempt at looking hi tech.

And what's going on with this effort?!

Bwahahaaa!

Hi, I'd like a £20k watch that looks like a £20 one please.

Certainly sir...

Proof that like Hublot, money doesn't buy you style.

Lol. If there were an example of exception, you just made it.

If you're not an attorney or work for one...you should!

Haha no doubt - I'm in M&A so negotiate deals and work with attorneys all the time.

That one only came to mind bc I've been on the lookout for one. A female friend and I saw one when shopping in Soho a few years ago she fell in love w it and I said yes this is actually something I'd let you spend money on bc it's not complete bullshit. Sadly the vintage shop closed as a result of Sandy and I never got there to pick up the watch.

I'm not a fan of Breitling. I think the watches are very busy looking.
