I'll let you know once the Dinan tune is done ... Victoria BMW seems to think that will eliminate the CEL issue ... see what happens! Talk soon Bro ... thanks for the replies and advice Sunny

the dinan tune is a piggy back so it will not remove the cel, it makes power by actually send the ecu bad information, the ecu adds an additional 3-4 psi as a result of the "box" telling the ecu the engine is short 3-4psi. unlike a custom tune the timing, afr's, and other parameters are left for the ecu to handle on its own, it is not modified at all with dinan or jb4 or any other piggy back. Top speed limit, rpm raised, or cel can't be controlled with this method. Not for nothing though the only advantage to a piggy back is the price, the jb4 is 499 the dinan is around 2500 if not more, for that money you can get a custom tune that is much better and will give you all the additional options .

Only thing DINAN does is increase the boost being relayed back to the car which for $2,500 is pricey for what you are getting. Brian

If you are running catless downpipes there are two methods that i learned of that you can use to remove cel
One is a Bluetooth obd2 tool which removes the cel code but you have to keep resetting it after a certain amount of miles driven. Another is installing something called a "fauler" which tricks O2 sensor but I hear it's hit or miss with this so do your research. |

Whilst the Fauler may work for a short while the idea is flawed for a number of engineering reasons eg: The tiny hole for sensing WILL block, the surrounding gases will have the same content more or less. As such I would not bother with this route on such a Tech car.
Full tune and removal of the CEL code is the only real way to go. |

Thats good info. I never knew of the negatives of faulers.
Whats weird is that I am running BMS stage 2 tune and catless downpipes but I'm not getting any CEL light. Does anyone know why that may be? I have had the N63 recall done and I remember talking to someone saying that BMS stage 2 clears CEL but others have said that is not true. I guess its either that or maybe my tune wasn't installed correctly... so confused lol |

m6beast's car doesn't have the CEL either. Sounds like some get the light and some don't. Most get the light. Brian |

I have heard that many of you running catless setups have been running with the CEL on My dealer has the Supersprint Down pipes ... but concerned if there is 2016 M6 specific Dinan programming avail, and they seem to think if avail will remove the CEL Also, if the CEL remains on after going catless ... due to a rich mix/burn of fuel and emisions issues once catless, could the ECU shut the engine down? Dealer concern now that we are close has to do with reliability and ECU interpretations of the CEL and safety!!! Any concerns there Big Brian, seeing as you and a few others have been running with CEL on? dealer cold feet ... got to love it I will likely do an ECU Tune, but issue becomes warantee

my 2007 M6 Cab with V10 with K&N cold air intake and Eissenman Sport Cat Back would have the CEL on if I ran anything other than Shell 91 Octane/V-power (and here in Victoria BC we have no ethanol blended in our Shell 91/V-power) WHAT FUEL ARE THE OTHERS WHO ARE CATLESS AND NO CEL ON RUNNING? As for the warantee issue, I think they will be good about it based on past cars and performance mods ... just seem a little reluctant to make a mod that could cause a problem ... some new staff in higher rolls as others more senior moved along to other brands under the German Auto Import Network (Namely moved from Victoria BMW to Porsche Centre Victoria) 1858 km now!

If you put catless on I am are the CEL will come on. I am also sure DINAN nor BMS box will remove it. The CEL won't do anything in terms of shutting down the ECU or negate performance of the engine. The light will just be illuminated on the dash. The only way to remove the light is an ECU tune. The faulers do not work as I've tried them. I have also tried the SmartWhatever device that is supposed to trick it and it doesn't work.
I would put the catless on and the rest of your mods. If you want a quick bang for your buck tune right now I would do the BMS and wait to spend your money on an ECU tune. Don't get caught up worrying about the CEL. I've had the CEL for probably 11 months now and it's no biggie. You will actually get used to seeing it displayed on the dash lol. Brian |

As Brian stated BMS or Dinan piggyback will not remove cel, I had the BMS for about 7 months before I got the AMS ecu tune. I am running AMS catless down pipes as well did not get cel light until like 150 miles on car, like everyone you get use to it. Only cure was the full ecu tune

BMS Stage 2 n63 tune is a bit more complicated to install than the plug and play stage 1 but I don't think it was installed incorrectly either and doesn't matter (now I know).
I guess time will tell if I get CEL, fingers crossed. I'm bummed out to hear that you've tried faulers and the bluetooth device with no avail. That's what I heard though; 50% of the time, it works every time. ECU tune sounds tempting. I mean I love my BMS tune but its inconsistent. I heard that ECU tuning in non-reversible? I mean you can always tune it back to factory/default settings though, right? |

I am with you though in the fact the BMW is a badass box. It's by far the best bang for the buck that I have spent on the car. I just know the ECU tune is safer due to the fact you can control fuel and timing and boost vs. just boost with BMW/DINAN. Brian

Update from me. Fitted DPs (Catless) and car would go into limp mode at high rpm and speed. Changed everything but eventually had it re mapped by Evolve. Now running 752hp (run on a local dyno I've used for years which gives a solid reading if a little low compared to most). Also had the cold start cycle removed and the cars a dream now. Absolute animal once it grips and pulled off the speedo with 7th to go!
Seems the tune has too be perfect to run decat DPs and DMS couldn't manage that. |
