Window Tint % Examples?
Looking to see some 6s with tint please. Did a search and found some nice pics but not a lot of detail on the film used.
I'm scheduled to go in on Friday for install. Planning on Huper Optik ceramic 30% rear and 40% front windows. Not trying to attract attention from the "boys in blue," more for heat rejection. Carbon black over black interior. Any one with pics and examples of how dark it will get? I'm almost thinking of changing the front to 50% if it's going to be too dark. Thanks a lot. |

It's difficult to gauge tint percentages from images, since it's all dependent on light and camera angles. I would recommend having an idea of what you want and then when you're at your installers, ask to see samples on your car.
I went 55 rear and 35 sides, but again, it's all about the light and angles. |

I've had a couple sample pieces that my installer gave me to play around with. 30% rear glass and 40% front, but I'm almost thinking about 40% rear and 50% front. With a carbon black car on black interior that might be enough based on not wanting a too dark look. |

Like anything on our cars, it all comes down to personal preference, but I look at tint as primarily functional (UV, IR, and heat rejection) and secondarily as an accent piece. Modern clear tints will address the former, so aesthetics is independent of function. Some people like the "murdered" look I'm not a fan for a number of reasons; personality, safety (seeing peds at night), and attracting undue LE attention being among them. |

I did 20% on all my GC, already comes 10% tinted from factory so total of 30% now.. It's good, would've gone for 50% all but i needed a permit from the RTAs and I was too lazy to go get it done lol

I'm with C5driver though, the UV seems to be important but the rest is personal taste. I see some with tint jobs that I would never want to drive myself, yet it looks soooo nice on their cars. The dealer had already put a darker tint on mine. It's coming off very soon. From the early evening on (about as soon as the sun starts going down) it's hard to see people coming up behind you - at least well enough to identify who they are. That's too dark for me. It's got to go. I've been debating getting just a clear (no tint) with UV protection or one of the lightest tints. I've heard that the "no tint" UV protection is very helpful in cooling off the car - won't keep a car from getting hot sitting in the sun but once you start it the interior will cool right down in no time. I assume that is true. Or do I need at least some tint to keep things cooler inside, and to help with cooling down once the car has been started? Where I live is not the hottest place around, but it sure can get hot enough. It would be nice to be able to cool the car off pretty quickly and not get so hot on the really hot days. I assume carbon 40% or 50% is a tint color. And being a larger number it means it's letting more light through. I have no idea of the range though. I was encouraged when I saw this thread thinking that I would get to see some pics of several different tints and maybe learn something. But so far only C5driver has posted any. Thank you for posting! BTW - that's a very nice looking ride you've got there. |

Search Huper Optik and look at their ceramic auto application guide. It has been very informative for me. It details the infrared reflective properties as well as the light transmission and reflective properties.
You are correct, it's complicated. But, finished product is personal taste versus technology to a point. |

I went with 3M Crystalline tint.
Crystalline 90 on the windshield, looks clear. Cuts the heat from the sun significantly. Crystalline 40 on the side and back windows. I did the same on my wife's 2015 740i, and my 2015 Tahoe.

Thanks for the posts. I'm definitely going with the Huper Optik ceramic. Now I know what the 40 looks like so that will be the front windows. 30 for the rear window and the 2 littles. I have an f13 coupe.

http://tintlaws.com/. I do not know if there is some exclusion for out of state vehicles but I would think there would almost have to be - front license plates are a good example of that. But I guess you might get stopped before they found out or while they learned the rules. It's obviously a very visible thing and stuff like that draws attention to you. I have always thought low profile is a better way but to each his/her own - no bright red street racers for me. Your avatar says you're in Michigan. According to that link above there are no tint restrictions in MI. But Wisconsin, Indiana, Illinois and Ohio all have some. A couple of those states require 50% light transmission in some windows and 35% in others. |

The HUD works fine with my tinted windshield. I have the Prestige Films PhotoSync 75 on the windshield and 55's everywhere else.

Ended up using a 35% all around. There was some issue with the ceramic Huper being too thick to get sealed correctly on the rear glass. It's pretty tight back there! Here's a quick shot. Very pleased with the results. On to the next changes next week!

I've been looking to do 35% on the sides and rear, I've had tint on allot of my vehicles, but was really surprised how hot it gets in here as compared to other vehicles.
Could be the low profile and larger glass area, then add a dark car and roof = warm. And for the record, the Lower the tint # the Darker it is. For example: 50% = Very light tint 35% = Light tint 20% = Darker tint 5% = Limo dark tint I have a friend who owns and has been doing tinting since the High School days.

I have 35% on all windows except the windscreen on my car. What I have noticed is that the 35% on the 6er Coupe looks a lot lighter than on my other cars, because the huge sunroof lets in a lot more light into the cabin.
