The Horse Edition M5(NO. 30) costs 360K dollar and M6 GC(NO.6) costs more than half a million dollar in China. This M5 is not really as well equipped as Japanese Nighthawk edition or Canadian limited performance edition, it comes with competition package and special emblem on headrest(Chinese character of horse, a real standing horse will look better but Ferrari may has a problem with that). It has no special paint(choose from two-non individual colour, one is not even metallic), no full leather(can't see from picture), no carbon ceramic brakes, no B&O, no full LED headlight, no BMW performance exhaust(AKR), some say it doesn't have electric tailgate! China is the largest market for BMW, and it is sad for Chinese customers that they just don't get the best after paying that much money.

I don't see the problem. 30 people get to have a custom headrest and the competition package thrown in... which I would assume saves money compared with adding it on otherwise. Sounds good to me.

I know "Horse Edition" sounds funny but if BMW want to grow and expand in China then a little cultural integration is a fun way to do it.

BMW in Chinese is called"Bao Ma", it literally means precious horse.
Ma means a horse, therefore it is a good marketing term for Chinese market as 2014 is " horse year"

I love Community... Changlorious bastards...

This is no different from all the M3 Editions for the Chinese market.
They all sold out days within the announcement.

Expected to do the same here.

The reactions to this thread clearly shows the difference in markets.

This is just 30 Individual M5's tailored to China in a rather genius way. BMW Marketing knows what they are doing, and those 30 examples will sell out by tomorrow.

BMW is a global brand. They are simply giving China what they want. These special editions sell out (usually) within hours. The people in China will look at those 30 examples as something special.

Different markets, different cultures, different tastes, different reactions.

Special editions fare especially better in China for those reasons. BMW capitalizes on the emotion and reaction of the China market.. and did so especially well with this Horse Edition.
