Lightbulb 2014 BMW M6 Competition Package (7MA) Undergoes Testing Ahead of Release

2014 BMW M6 Competition Package Undergoes Testing Ahead of Release

COMMENTS

Like the M5, the M6 is also expected to receive a Competition Package for the 2014 model and we have spied it being evaluated on the Nurburgring. The M6 Competition Package should receive the same features and upgrades as the M5, which are currently expected to be:

• Package Code: 7MA
• HP increase (approximately 15-20hp)
• Top speed increase
• M Carbon Ceramic Brakes
• Sport suspension
• Sport exhaust with black tips
• Enhanced steering
• 20" competition wheels
• Carbon fiber trunk spoiler (seen on M6 only)
• Rumored to be priced in Europe at € 9800EUR (M5) and € 12000EUR (M6)

Seen on this M6 Competition Package prototype are the Competition Package's M carbon ceramic brakes, unique 20" wheels, and sport suspension. The sport exhaust system (or just the black tips) does not appear to be fitted on this prototype, but we have previously seen it on the M5 Competition prototype.

Look for official details of the M5/M6 Competition Package to be potentially revealed at the M Festival, which begins on May 18 at the Nurburgring.

I agree with you on both points, but I think in some parts of the world they like the chrome-line trim

Agreed that it needs shadowline. However, I hope the carbon brakes are not standard for the Comp. Package. I would be open to getting the Comp. Package but without the carbon brakes...

Those wheels have to go, and I didn't even know that they put chrome window trim on M models except for the ones in Saudi.

Hmmm, everyone over on the M5 side seemed to love the wheels but hated the idea of the comp pack. Go-figure!

This is a pathetic offering from BMW and M, and basically destroys the history of these cars. Now an M is not really the top performer, you have to have an M M performance car to be top dog. It's absolutely ridiculous that BMW has chosen this money grabbing solution for what was once an aspirational marque, they're just like mb or Audi or anyone else that had always aspired to be an ///M. I'm glad I had the last of the true Ms, it's all marketing madness now, and they can keep it

It's a competition package just like they've always offered for the M3. Only difference is this one has more upgrades (power, brakes).

I suspect that the brakes will not be a compulsory part of the package, but will be offered as enhancement that makes the best of it. Perhaps, for example, the top speed increase will require the CCB. It also possible that ordering the package will make the brakes slightly cheaper than ordering them alone.

And keep in mind that the contents of this package may vary by region.

This competition pack should just be standard on the next model year. Maybe with the brakes as an option

This.

What BMW needs to do is bring back the L badging. Make those the fast comfortable cars. The take M back to what it used to be.

The original Competition Package for the M3 was on the e46. The first month of production for the US was December 2004 (MY2005). It included:
  • Y-Spoke 19" wheels
  • a lower suspension compared to the stock M3 by 0.6"
  • Cross-drilled rotors
  • a less intrusive DSC programming with activation button on the steering wheel
  • more direct steering ratio (14.5:1 compared to 15.4:1) looks minor on paper but it really made a difference
  • Exclusive aluminum trim
  • Alcantara steering wheel
  • Introduction of Interlagos Blue only available on ZCP
Not bad for $4k!
I ordered mine in January and was at the Performance Center picking it up in March 05. A///Mazing!

Chill out, it is just a package, not an edition. M3s always get them, it is great that they are offering them on higher up M variants.

EDIT: Although, I don't understand the power increase. That should be standard on the car, with the comp package upgrading the rest (exhaust, wheels, brakes etc...)

I agree with your point about the ceramic brakes. Not everyone is going to want to have that option let alone pay for the cost of replacement when the time comes.
