BMW M6 Gran Coupe Debuts at M Night During 40 Years of M Event [Full Gallery]

COMMENTS

We have been in attendance at the 40 Years of M event at the Nurburgring for the past few days. Besides all the awesome M cars here for driving and ogling (more on those later), BMW M brought out a special treat sneak peek during M Night - the BMW M6 Gran Coupe! Also revealed at the event was the BMW M3 DTM Champion Edition Coupe.

Though technical details were not provided at the sneak preview, it will obviously be powered by the same S63Tu engine from the F10 M5, F12 M6 convertible, and F13 M6 coupe, likely with the same output (560hp). A 7 speed DCT transmission will be available and no word yet on a possible manual option.

As seen in its most recent spy pics, the M6 Gran Coupe features the same sculpted carbon fiber roof as the M6 coupe and also an aggressive new wheel style which hover over the gold carbon ceramic brakes. It also has a carbon fiber diffuser lip not present on the M6 coupe/convertible. As expected, the M6 Gran Coupe bears the same front, rear, and sideskirt styling as the M6 coupe, as well as sharing the same double-slat kidney grilles with M6 badge.

The M6 Gran Coupe will have its public premiere at the 2013 NAIAS (Detroit auto show) in January and hit dealerships in the Fall of 2013 as a 2014 model year.

Enough talk, onto the pics of the M6 Gran Coupe and M Night!

Beautiful car, especially the new wheels and it looks almost the same as renders suggested. But despite M6GC's added glamour, I consider M5 F10 to be the more proportional design and an overall more complete package.

Time will tell

It would have been nice if the plate under the gear knob was wood as well. It somewhat makes the car look cheaper compared to the 650 or 640.

That carbon fiber underbody rear spoiler is not on the M6 Coupe or Convertible, right?

So that would make a Gran total (get it?) of two design changes from the regular M6 and 6-series GC: the wheels and that spoiler.

Otherwise, totally expected (and totally beautiful). Can't wait to see the M4 GC.

I don't get why you'd get an M5 over this, seats look a lot different?

I see your point but those probably are not the most flattering M6GC pics/angles.

Regarding the F10 M5 design, I am a betting man that the 6 and the M6 GC would have simply been Chris Bangle's 5/M5. Take that whichever way you wish.

Not much new. I'm looking forward to the price and output. I still think it will cost less than the M6 Convertible...

Very pretty.

I saw a new M5 in person as well as a 640iGC at our local dealer when I needed to by some oil and a filter a couple weeks ago.

Needless to say my opinion is wothless since I don't have the coin for either of those rides, but there really do look fantastic BUT they are like 10% too big.

My neighbor a few doors down has a new 550xi M Sport. It's the right color (silver ) and those m style 5 spoke wheels really set it apart from the other late model 5ers bopping around. The car looks so good but it is just sooo large. And being an xi with it's higher ride height makes it look bigger still. (Most people in Buffalo are convinced they need an xi because it snows 25% of the year here, even though a set of snows make a non awd great in the snow). He took me for a ride in it and I was blown away at the thrust and swiftness of that boat, and that V8 sure sounds like a v8!

BMW will have no trouble selling M6 GCs.

There is so much leather in that interior! Can you imagine having to clean and condition all of it? It would take forever.

Stunning, really curious to see if they bring this in MT might be an interesting variant to have.
