US$650 for Ceramic Controls??
Yes, it was part of the M-Sport edition, but as a $650 option for a shift knob, radio knob, and 4 vent system knobs, frankly they're not worth it. Yes, they do look better than the chrome, but $650??

I have them in mine. It makes the car feel so much more luxurious. Would I have ticked the box if buying new? No. But after having it, I would.

The ceramic controls are well worth it. It's always the little details that can make an interior feel posh or cheap. Without a doubt, the interior of the 6, even in basic form, is a very nice place to be... but load it up with all the goodies, and it's downright stunning.

Get it, or regret it, it's one of those options...
I've sold several retrofit kits that run about double the cost of the option'd price. |

It's obviously possible to replace your interior controls with the ceramic options, correct?
Just curious as I know I would most likely replace them because the ceramics are far superior in terms of looks |

Have to agree, I thought it was a gimmick but mine happened to have the ceramic controls specified and they feel soooo deluxe compared to the plastic. I would find it hard to go back, same goes for the Merino leather!!!

seems stupid, but it does feel vastly better. If mine did not have, and the loaners didn't have it I would have been blissfully happy in my ignorance. But I am sure if I ever got a loaner with the ceramic option, or I saw it in a friends car I would have retrofitted it in. $650 is stupid expensive, but it is an expensive process.

Beside the steering wheel, those ceramic knobs are the thing you touch the most in the car. They look and feel so nice...

How many people actually pay $650 for the knobs as a stand-alone option? They are included in several packages so I doubt many people pay for them separately. But yeah, they are pretty cool. I'd hate to not have them.

Good afternoon everyone,
I have been around here long but mainly for reading and learning purposes. I will soon change from an F32 to an F06 and I am really looking forward to that since the car is a top occasion with few km and lots of options (and a good price for me). Unfortunately the CERAMIC elements are missing (S4U1A). I can remedy the shift knob ceramic element for a decent price but before I buy the more expensive Idrive application I wanted to know: 1) Is it Plug & Play from a mounting standpoint? 2) It requires coding right as FA is missing the S4U1A? 2) Once the original non-ceramic idrive has been removed, can the car be software updated just fine or will it Always require back the original one? Thanks a lot for your feedback and hopefully good news! Regards Cris Last edited by FBMWWINS; 06-20-2018 at 05:38 PM.. |

If anyones interested, I have ceramic control panels available. Can either do a straight sale, core exchange for your factory, or simply upgrade your panel/s. Few additions available as well. Here's one I did for a F10 M5 (anyone spot the minor addition?)
Have front & rear panels available , No coding necessary. |

speaking of nice things I would not have ordered but like
The fancy crystal controls are very nice....would I have ordered new? No...But...I would not have ordered my $3700 Bang & Olufsen audio system either...but I am so glad it is on my 640! The sound is killer...17 speakers, 2 subwoofers under the seats, 1200 watts. Digital music sounds like a live performance in a concert hall. Love it!

My 2015 650 GC came with the ceramic controls option but I am wondering why mine looks slightly different than the picture above.
In my car, the surface of the iDrive controller is a shiny, black surface, just like in the photo, but the black surfaces of the ventilation and volume controls are not shiny but mat. I guess my question is what are ceramic controls? Are they just the black surface, the whole knob or both? I am a little confused. Thanks Last edited by MichaelInChicago; 06-11-2019 at 11:51 PM.. |
