They already are a thing. Remember electric race cars have already set records at Pikes Peak, Goodwind Festival Of Speed, etc. Look at the quickest cars, including the Porsche, and see the serious machinery they are coming out ahead of in the standings.

Can't wait till BMW unveils their 1300HP EV quad motor M model. You really don't miss the sound of an engine as much when you realize how entertaining it is hearing a gas engine in the car next to you, wailing as the driver is trying to keep up with the smooth/effortless power delivery of an EV. And if you really like to speed, a quiet drivetrain is your friend in keeping under the radar. You can speed right past a police officer, and they won't even turn around or notice you at times.

Look at the Chris Harris Top Gear test of the Rimac. The Lamborghini "sounds" fierce. I guess to some, the bark is more important than the bite?
Feeling dead inside when you feel more instant acceleration instead of a noisy engine is the opposite of how it should be.

Actually, after driving a higher HP EV, throttle response on most FI gas engines feel dead inside the drivetrain. Drive them back to back, and it is obvious the fully flat HP curve on many EVs makes gas engines feel obsolete.

I understand you. It looks very generic and feels "soulless" in EV form w/o the engine sound!

Exactly! It does not have the road presence of the F10 5 series, not easily recognizable as a BMW 5 series and does not evoke any emotions without the BMW engine sound!

For me EVs don’t excite me despite offer more performance
It’s HOW they go from A to B

It s akin to playing vinyl, analogue watches, riding a horse, . Sure there are better ways or archiving the goals but people enjoy the more traditional methods

Love the fake engine sound on the promo, well that’s what makes it a thrilling ride. Surprise surprise, it’s going to be through the speakers.

Jason rumors are we will see minor design changes as this is a pre-production reveal. Any truth that may give us more hope?

Yeah I think that’s a good analogy. I’ve got an i4 M50 and while I think it’s pretty fun to drive, it loses a lot due to the lack of exhaust/engine sounds. Even the drama behind gear changes.

The fake sounds it makes (identical to the ones in that ad) do a good job of helping a little without being obnoxious but obviously it’s not the same.

Ideally EVs are perfect as daily drivers in areas where you just spend most of your commute driving slow and/or are in congested areas.

They’re great on the highway too as they’re quiet and comfy with lots of power to pass and what not but if you want to go around a fun curvy road, can’t beat a sporty car with an ICE.

I can only imagine. I’ve only driven the iX xDrive50 which I also thought was great.

I think we really gotta preface this with electric vehicles as they are today. I think electric vehicles are still how top gear described the i8 many years ago- like old clunky laptops. Big heavy batteries that ruin driving dynamics. I hold my optimism in us getting significantly smaller batteries within a few years. Ideally a smaller range with swapable tiny batteries is still what I hope for most.

This generation of EVs is still in its infancy if you think about it. A new source of propulsion should be exciting but they’re trying to fit it per the exact same form factor as before and same range too.

I think if BMW made an EV with a small light battery- but swappable, E39 styling, and real M suspension and chassis from the last gen M5 CS and any hydraulic steering from past gens for that extra throwback it would be a huge hit.

That’s adorable coming from a 16 year old kid who is looking at a beater car and doesn’t even know how to inspect a car lol.

Kid I’ve torn apart and rebuilt engines, done track days, and have owned a few BMWs among other enthusiast driver focused cars.

No need to be such an ignorant condescending, gatekeeping prick.

This is especially hilarious considering you don’t even own a car but yeah you’re the authority on cars child too young to vote lol.

Car enthusiasts can like things from Porsches, Lamborghinis, Jeeps, trucks, wagons and EVs.

Maybe once you grow up and actually drive a car, you’ll learn that just because you don’t like something (because you obviously do not understand it) doesn’t mean those that do like it are inferior to you.

Lol I think he was talking about your last sentence regarding ev being good for basic drivers in congested areas, nothing about you as in clearly those are the non-car guys that he “forgot” still exist which EV is suitable for, is what he meant.
