High Voltage and Drivetrain messages today

Super strange. Drove my car this morning for about 20 mins. Parked in the garage and plugged it in to the Level I charger. Right away interior lighting turned red and the High Voltage System warning appeared.

Unplugged the car, and started it. Drivetrain warning appeared as well. Drove the car up and down the street. Got out. Locked it. Both warnings still there.

Called my dealer in Calabasas, and they said to bring it in right away.

I updated apps & services, re-booted iDrive, locked the car and let it sit for about 15 mins.

Got in to drive to the dealer....and perfect now. High Voltage and Drivetrain warnings gone and interior lighting no longer red and I plugged it in. It's charging & interior lighting flashing blue for charging!

I called my dealer and they said if it comes back today or tomorrow, bring it in and they're hoping it was a phantom/isolated event.

But....my fav Service guy told me this EXACT thing has happened 3x since in the last week with 3 other iX. Two of them self cleared, one is still being looked at.

Yep, it sounds like it's very widespread. We have done 12,500km in our M60 and only just started getting these errors. Some have had them after 500km, so hard to tell if it's wear and tear on the heater/cooler unit/pump or something that has been happening for a long time but now reported by newer software versions. I commented on the other Drivetrain thread about my experience.

Forgot to mention, it does seem to related to charging sessions -- we have had it with DC and AC charging. The errors seem to occur a while after the charge session has completed. Ours have always cleared but clearly something is up.

Yeah, sadly this is sounding more common and more widespread now. We took delivery of two iX50 in mid 2022, and only 1 of them used to get the high voltage error, but only when fast charging.

Both our iX 60 have been trouble free and warning error free until today.

Really hoping this is a "one off" for me. The dealer said he has seen a few where the warnings do not return, and then some where they have to be turned in for Service. One is there now, and the problem is still not located

Thanks, that's good. The dealer told me today, they these Drivetrain and High Voltage warnings are actually storing and they can pull them up when hooking the iX up for diagnostics.

But, if they self clear like mine did today.....fingers crossed I am good.

I plugged in 2x more today, to see if the errors would return during or post charging, and so far...all good!

The M60 has been at the dealer service dept getting the high voltage and drivetrain errors looked at, this time in more detail than just a plying a software update and hope that does the trick (03/2023.45).

Outcome of today's inspection: "Hi Jono,

Update on the i X.

With the faults that are present, there is one that has repeated itself.

That fault relates to the electric fan that cools the system.

When we do the test on this electric fan, the operation of the electric fan checks out and the system reports no defects.

We forwarded this case to BMW Australia, and they have advised to replace the electric cooling fan as step 1.

Unfortunately, this fan is available from Malaysia.

I have ordered it and we are looking at 2-3 working weeks.

I am hoping it arrives before your planned trip.

In the meantime, I am just waiting on the vehicle to get put together and groomed.

I will advise when the vehicle is ready to collect.

Thanks"

So ok to use in the meantime by the sounds of it but a new electric fan unit is on order.

Hey all, I posted something on this in similar thread yest but wanted to do same here.

Dealing with this issue off and on since the day I took delivery in December. Fan relay was replaced, and now BMW is recommending the fan itself be replaced. That's what being done for me, right now.

Also being dealt with: Airbag recall, and error messages I keep getting regarding drivers assistance systems not being functional.

Good times.

OT deutsch100: Two iX50s, traded a year later for two iX60s? You're my idol. After less than a year of ownership, I'm in the market to trade a perfectly fine Lexus for an iX60, not the first time I've done something like that, but my wife has just about had it. I may have to ask you to chat with her. She may be seeking a divorce attorney for herself and a therapist for me.

LOL. Luckily my spouse is almost at my level of car crazy.

Since Summer 2022...We are on iX #4 and i4 #3 and then added a B8 and X5M in the same time frame. Let's not talk about G-Wagen, Range Rover and RR & Bentley.

Our car insurance people cringe and laugh every time we call. They basically answer the phone saying: What car are we removing from the policy & what are we adding?

DOS 2.0 on IBM, and Win1.0 in 1985 and on - Even more of a dupe - was an original Beta tester for Win98 until it went gold. Forty 3.5" floppies every couple of weeks. Outlook was an afterthought that we added later. Run on the remains of an old Micron I assembled, if I recall.

Wow just had crazy flashbacks to the stack of floppies...I also was a Win95 beta tester when it was known as "Chicago."

Sometimes it feels like BMW might have borrowed their processors from that old Micron, and maybe some of their software from the Gates & Allen rock band....

Ah, names from the past - Chicago, Detroit, Nashville, Memphis! Part of Wild Bill's "Where do you want to go today?" Windows marketing campaign, and it worked - even trickling down to the Easter Eggs...

You guys must be almost as old as I am 😆

I remember when Windows first appeared. It was too clunky and I stuck with using DOS but I saw the potential. I thought I should buy Microsoft shares. I was a young architect in Singapore and didn’t know how 🙄 !
