Porsche Heir's Electric-Car Startup Takes On the Family Business

Porsche has been in transition for going on two decades. It's broadened its appeal with the more family-oriented Cayenne and Macan SUVs, and its debut electric model, the Taycan, is now outselling the iconic combustion-engine 911.

I'm not sure this is a surprise, the 911 is a pretty unique purpose built car. The Taycan fills a spot that may have a broader appeal.

It’s just about a given that a four door will outsell a two door from the same brand with anywhere near a comparable price point.

Not a surprise.

Coupes in 'Merica are of low demand. Last month I checked inventory at the closest Porsche dealership. They had 19 cars in stock...16 of them were Macans.

There is over a year waiting period for 911s. They are simply producing more Taycans. It has little to do with true demand

Rolex sells more watches than A. Lange & Sohne but I know which one I’d rather have.

But what if the ALS was quartz?

Just wait until the Macan EV comes out, it won't take Porsche long to be selling more EVs than ICE.

This is BS propaganda.

While Taycan is doing OK, there are massive delays on 911s and production has not been to the same level as pre-pandemic. Go to your local Porsche dealer and try to order even a base 911 forget about S, GTS etc.

Taycans are being produced in higher quantities while the demand is not as strong. All about pushing EV agenda.

Bingo!

I posted in another thread that local corporate owned Porsche dealers are pushing nearly $100k Mark up on 911s.

Though has Porsche built/sold more taycans at this point in time for 2021 ?
Reading a DuPont Registry article in July 2020, for first half of 2021 Porsche delivered 19,822 Taycans and delivered 20,611 911's.

This Oct 2021 article below:

https://newsroom.porsche.com/en/2021...021-26063.html

BTW my friend picks up his GT3 in a few days purchased at MSRP.

I want to think Dupont Registry is relevant, but their IG has some crazy insane over-priced cars on it all the time.

With that many 911s and Taycans in production, surprising that they have the values they do since they're not really "special" per se.

How many Porsches does your friend own and bought from this dealer? What car did he trade in for the GT3?
There is no free lunch - either you’re a VIP client or you pay a hefty ADM. Go on Rennlist and see how many ppl cant get an allocation after buying from same dealer for many years.

Porsche 911 US deliveries are still way down compared to 2019.
Hence why prices for the 991 cars have increased so much.

Funny you mention this.

I just recently parted with my normal BMW dealer as they had no appreciation for the 5 M Cars I'd previously bought from them and tried to slap an ADM on an inventory unit plus offer me nearly $12k below fair market on my trade which was bought from them not even 4 months ago and is a 22 X3M Comp with 900 miles. They said $69k plus $2k loyalty...... meanwhile I was offered over $80k from another dealer.

The GM I did all my business with moved from that BMW to be a GM of a Porsche.....

Maybe I need to look into the transition aswell.

911 are in very high demand, but there is nearly zero inventory!

Why would Porsche have an EV agenda? Just curious.

This is my local Porsche dealer's inventory. They have a 911 but no Taycan.

I don't want to be too revealing about a friends negotiations, but I think the fact he and some friends were servicing their Macan's at the dealership and he committed to the car a few years back surprisingly were factors.

Globally there is a HUGE EV agenda or have you been living under a rock.

911 production has been significantly decreased, same goes for Cayman/Boxster.
I have had a GT3 deposit for well over a year and recently put a deposit down on a GTS. My dealer which is one of the big ones only got 5 total allocations for 911s for all of Q1 2022.

If you don’t believe me - call your local dealer and say you want to but a 911. See what they tell you.
