Removal of rear headrest

Has anyone been able to remove the rear headrest in the coupe? Any advice would be appreciated.

I’d like to do this as I have two child seats in the back. I only briefly looked into it and it looks like a pain in the arse.

What about removing the bottom cushion of the rear seat. I was able to pull it up but something is holding the back in.

Are you sure it's possible? I too need to install child seats in the rear that has the tether anchors. The anchors are there, but you'll crush the top of the seat if you tighten it.

According to the GC manual, the rear headrests do not move at all

You are right, they don’t come out in the GC. For the coupe, see https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/f...ormal/F3BngjcK

I had the same issue in my X5 and M3 recently as I was swapping car seats. BMW generally are a firm tug upward to remove. You might have to jiggle it to dislodge it.

That side I could only get 1 side off my X5.

The GC headrest is part of the seat back as far as I know. As for the above, thanks for this. I thought the were bolted in somewhere.

Well tried this and failed. Cannot get them out of the seat back without running the risk of smashing the back windscreen!

Tried so hard and eventually gave up. Your headrests are doomed by the pressure of the seat strap. Just accept it.

you guys 100% sure they come out? As I said, on my M3 the instructions clearly said they do not. And on the X5 only the center seat does not. BMW is very good at describing whether it does or not in the manual.

Old thread but it helped me out - yes you can remove headrests, my kids seats fit much better with them removed. One side came out with a sharp tug, the other I had to hit up with the palm of my hand.

I run the belts under the headrest. Keeps it hidden and doesn’t damage the headrest.
