M6 GC M-DCT Transmission service?

Hey everyone,

went to my local BMW dealership for a general service on my 2017 BMW m6 gc with M-DCT and they read a transmission service overdue on my key fob. Currently got 39,000 miles on the car and from what I read the transmission fluid is a lifetime fluid on a M-DCT and should never be touched. I also read that certain dealerships have been recommending transmission services but it is not required / recommended by BMW corp.

Anyways Got quoted 2.3k for the transmission service alone but got it down to 1.4k with a independent BMW service place which is still incredibly expensive.

Anyone ever come across this? Thanks in advance! Sorry if posted in wrong place, still new to this forum.

If the independent shop going to change all the filters and the transmission pan then $1400 sound about right. Maybe just a tad on the high side but not by much.

Thanks! How common is a transmission service keyread anyways? Looked all around google and found no videos or forum posts about such thing. Hopefully once this is completed i'll never have to do another trans. again, going to make me broke.

For me personally, I do transmission service and rear differential fluid every 50k for all of my vehicle.

Technically the transmission and fluid are considered 'lifetime' by BMW which equates to 100k miles -- but I have been contemplating doing one on my car anyways. My local BMW dealership quoted me ~$650 for the job but I also have a good relationship with my advisor. If you're thorough with the job, the parts are about $580. I'm not sure if this is the exact parts list that BMW would replace/change during the service though.

Or maybe lifetime refers to the lifetime of the original warranty?

I'm in the camp that believes if you want to keep the car for a long time, a periodic transmission fluid & filter exchange will be money well spent.

I've confirmed with my service advisor that 'lifetime' does refer to 100k miles, engine coolant also falls into this category as well.

I agree with your philosophy though, I change all fluids at about a 2:1 ratio to BMW's recommendations as I believe it is a relatively inexpensive way to prevent expensive issues long term

I've done a DCT service in my M6 a month or so ago.
It's actually pretty simple and straight forward.
You don't need the drain plug if you buy the oil pan because it's included.

What i have bought:
28107850148 (pan filter)
28107842840 (pressure side filter)
28108070791 (oil pan with drain plug included)
28107850241 (filling plug, highly recommended because it uses a silicone o-ring, better to replace it for 10$)

Less than 300€ for everything, then about 100€ for 8 liters of Motul Multi DCTF oil.

After draining and changing the filter and the pan, use ISTA for the adaptation to fill back the exact quantity of oil (you will drain ~7 liters of oil, and you will be able to fill only 4 liters without the adaptation procedure)
The old oil was not bad but it contains some small metal particles, also found some in the magnet inside the oil pan, so I'm suggesting to do a service)
My car is at 70'000km or about 43'500 miles

Cheers

DCT service / new oil pan?

Hello! Im new to M6 family, its 2014 M6 coupe with 58k miles. Stock no mods.

My shopping list for first time DCT service:
oil pan drain plug
Pentosin FFL-4 DCT fluid 5 litter
BMW DCT oil pump filter
BMW DCT Mechatronic Unit Cover Gasket
BMW DCT filter
BMW DCT fill plug

I see some DCT service kits include oil pan, some not. Wondering if it's necessary for me to get a new pan since I have gasket on the list already. Or is there any other concern that I'd better get a new pan?

Thanks!

You can reuse the pan. I recommend you to get 7 quarts and new pan bolts.

If you are able to find the gasket (good luck!) because it's a special gasket.

It's usually better to change for a new oil pan, because of the gasket and because it's made of plastic and can warp with heat cycles.

Hey guys,

Sorry to bring and old thread back to life, but have some questions about this service.
A local shop is quoting me less than $300/labor for the work, but dealer is over $1k, saying they have to plug it in to the computer and run full diagnostics and calibration, etc.

Could anyone confirm this is required? Or would just replacing the pans/filters/fluids suffice? Is it safe to just replace everything from the service kit or do we really need to tell the computer it's new stuff and recalibrate and all that good jazz?

Thanks in advance,
- Leo.

It does have to be recalibrated after the fluid service is performed. It takes a little time due to the need to get transmission fluids to temps while on the lift.

I went to ask workshop about DCT oil change on my 2012 M6 (35000km mileage), but as informed by them no recommended to do it first?

My thought was since the car already 10 years even though low mileage I assumed the DCT oil is kind of dirty or some form of debris was formed inside the DCT, thats why I suggest an oil change.

After the DCT oil change, the car will feel abit jerky than before (for about 1-2months) as informed by the workshop, is that true?
