Has anyone tried the modules that are sold for this feature/functionality? seems like the best way to modernize the idrive system! Looking for some realworld feedback, the units cost 400USD which is well worth the price!

I wanted update my idrive from 4 to 5/6 until I learned that touch screen is simply not possible. It was a dealer breaker for me. Decided to leave it as is.

you don't modify your screen at all, this is a separate module that plugs into your existing setup!

I went with the android auto MMI from Bimmer-tech. Very straightforward install (you're just installing a module inline between OEM screen and radio), and worth the price especially since it works wireless.

Yea but with Idrive 5/6 you can install Apple Car play natively. No need for any third party hardware/software.

Either way, no touch screen no deal.

The only way to retain touchscreen after the NBT upgrade would be to additionally replace the OEM Nav screen with an OEM Navi Screen from 2016+ production M6's. They are bezel-less, have a much cleaner look, fully touchscreen and are specific to the M6, as they differ slightly in shape and connection from the F10 M5's.

I dont think M6 ever supported a touch screen. Even the 2019 which was the last year of production, everything was done through the idrive knob.

Correct me if I'm wrong. Anyone here driving a M6 have a touch screen???

Its a shame. A touch screen with idrive 5/6 would have been perfect.

Instead I'm stuck idrive 4 with primitive features.

Apologies, I wasn't aware that 2016+ M6's didn't have touchscreen capability, I own a 2015 Pre-Lci. Either way, touch capability is software dependent not car dependent. If NBT is upgraded, it's the software/hardware which enables that capability.
You would have to replace the screen with another touchscreen panel such as the F15 X5.

They could have added it but they probably decided not to since they knew they were going to stop building them and replace with the 8 series.

Currently coding my car from NBT Evo ID4 to the current ID6 using BMW specific software only, no hardware. I will make a post if I'm successful, hopefully!
I wasn't planning on upgrading the touchscreen due to how far the screen actually is from my driving position. My original plan was to upgrade to a bezel-less screen as it gives a more cleaner look overall.

Why do you guys want touchscreen functionality?
Given the distance between the driver and the screen, it seems like an ergonomic nightmare. I find iDrive controller far superior control.
