valve stem seals N63

'12 650i xdrive
I took my car to the dealer to have it checked out because of the car stuttering when accelerating moderately and because of the oil consumption and excessive exhaust smoke. The dealer is replacing the valve stem seals, battery and oil separator for free. The N63 engine has had so many problems that there is a class action lawsuit addressing issues. https://bangclasssettlement.com/Comm...sked-Questions
The techs at the dealer did some tests and sent them to BMW NA where they determined that my engine was in good enough condition to fix instead of giving me a rebuilt engine.

The tech said that the stuttering is because of the transfer case and nothing to do with the valve stem seals. I guess I'll be tearing that apart when I get the car back. I have already replaced the rear output flange.

Anybody else have a similar experience?

Not me particularly, but when I was considering an extended warranty on my 2013x, I asked my BMW service manager what big things might go wrong and first thing out of his mouth was "I have seen a lot of transfer Case problems" So not surprised at your tech's comment

Simply put, I just wouldn't own a non-TU N63 at this point. Knowing everything that's gone wrong with these engines, I'd stay far away from any car equipped with one. To be honest, the N63TU doesn't have a flawless history either, but at least it's a sizable improvement... but it'll likely suffer from more than its fair share of issues as time rolls on.
