Anyone replaced their interior trim?

Hi all, I'm new to the forum as I recently bought a 650i GC and I'd like to replace the standard wood interior trim with the carbon trim. Does anyone know a good place to get it at a decent price - at a breakers maybe?

I've seen a few of the M6 carbon trims going on eBay, except that the centre console (p/n 51168072324) won't fit because of the different gear stick in the M6.

Alternatively I was considering getting the trim wrapped like this, but I don't know if it's going to look naff in real life and then chip/peel/fade over the years.

Any advice much appreciated!

Cheers, Matt

Properly wrapped trim will hold up ok, although you could nick or cut it with sharp objects, but it won't look like real carbon fiber. It's satin instead of glossy but mostly it has no depth to it like the real stuff. A breaker might not even be willing to sell you just the trim and the labor to remove all the door panels to get to the trim screws would be quite involved. But the odds of finding it at a breaker are not great anyway. Your lowest cost solution for the real stuff is probably to buy an M6 set on Ebay then buy a new center console piece.

I am thinking about wrapping. The dash pieces pop off, the console and door pieces would be wrapped in place. A friend did his 135i and it cam out damn good.

The console piece comes off so easily on a 6 that I would not wrap it in place. Takes way less time to remove it than the extra time to wrap it in place. Literally one screw. Since I've done it a couple times I bet if you timed me I could have it off in three minutes. Happy to type up a DIY when you get to that point.

I’d be interested! Want to take it out and clean/polish the wood.

+1 on wrapping the door parts in place. They are a major PITA to remove, and you can very easily damage the leather when removing them. The dash and centre console trim is super easy to remove.

Here is how to remove the center console wood trim, with pics.

1. Open the cup holder and hook your fingers under those quarter-circle rubber bumpers that hold your cup - the ones in the center rear nearest the shifter. Pull straight up and completely remove that piece.

2. Put your finger under the front of the side trim piece below the wood in the driver's footwell and pull out until the first clip comes out, then feed your hand back pulling out the clips.

3. See the one torx screw under that trim that is even with the back end of the the silver shift surround? Remove that one screw.

4. Pull straight up on the back of the wood piece until it comes loose, but don't pull it all the way up because you have to reach under and pull off two or three wire connectors. They are small and pull straight off. You might need to twist a small flat blade screwdriver to pop them off.

5. Pull up and back and the piece will come right out.

+1 to that; thanks Opie that’s a massive help. I’ll keep an eye out on eBay for now as the centre console piece alone is ~£500, but I can start saving in the interim. 😁👍🏻

BTW, I also posted a DIY on polishing the wood. It's in a thread started by somebody else, but if you search my name and M105 you will find it.

Just to follow up on this, I’ve replaced all the door/dash bits of trim with carbon fibre parts I bought off eBay, but now I can’t find a replacement centre console (p/n 51168072324). Does anyone know any good parts shops or even a breakers I could call up?

BMW don’t have any in stock and they said words to the effect of “if we placed it on back order I wouldn’t expect it for 6-12 months.” I’ve looked online and haven’t found anywhere that a) has it in stock and would b) ship it to the UK. Any pointers much appreciated as now my interior is 90% carbon and 10% wood which isn’t a great look...

Cheers, Matt

So I Googled that number and one of the first hits is a seller on eBay UK that says they have that for 508 pounds. Do they not actually have one or is that price too steep? If they actually have it, I would probably jump on it because it won't get much easier to find with time.

Which listing is that Opie? I’ve only found one at a slightly higher price, but they won’t ship it to the UK....

This is what I saw. Also Latvia, but says ships worldwide with a long list of exceptions, but I don't see the UK, but maybe I missed it. I just assumed anybody listing on eBay UK would ship to the UK.

I also see that seller is away until January 1.
