Next car

I gushed earlier about the M5 Competition that I test drove claiming that I NEEDED it. I think I still do.

I test drove a 2022 850i GC yesterday and before the drive I was checking numbers, etc., on the cusp of pulling the trigger. But when I got to the dealer they presented the car to me with at least a week’s worth of dirt and dust on it and there was even a small scratch on the rear passenger door.

I drove it and loved the power. Holy crap! That thing was like a sling shot, but not anywhere near as quick or as agile as that M5 Comp that I drove. I was so disenchanted by the filthy car that I returned it to the dealer and left. Who presents a $110,00.00 car to a customer in that state? Even if I had decided that that was THE car, I would not have bought it from them.

Anyhow. So then I thought I’d research the E63S. I read several reviews and comparos and was intrigued by the bad Benz but in the end I decided that it was just too pedestrian, practically ugly.

The M5 is a decided step down in the looks department from the 6 GC, but I am swayed by the ballistic performance.

That said, given the insane used car values due to the Covid crap and chip shortage, I’ve decided to wait until at least July 2022 and find a low mileage 2021 M5 Comp and by it at a steep discount.

I love what the new cars can do, but man, I just can't get over how bland they look. Even the DRL/Angel Eyes have lost their distinctive shape, and now look damn near identical to a couple of other new cars on the market.

When the only thing that grabs me is the performance, it kills every bit of wind in my sails.

That is a shame that the car was presented to you like this. That being said, I have never, ever, in my lifetime, seen so many help wanted signs, billboards, etc, etc, etc. Not making an excuse for the dealership, because the manager should have washed the car, but they probably can't find people to wash cars right now. I am appalled at the way this has ended up.

I was at my dealer yesterday for a last checkup before I go sans CPO Warranty, and my salesman, whom I have bought from before, said they have no inventory. They sell it as it is rolled off the truck. They ask me if I'm interested in selling mine! Right now the X5 and X7 are the hottest.

Why not mod the 6 to M5 power? It isn't hard or that expensive. I'm way over 600 hp crank.

That’s not a bad idea, but I’m driving a 640. Also, since it’s a 2016, I really want to upgrade the electronics, etc. That said, it’s going to be hard to give up on the 6 series looks! I was also thinking of a 2020 Alpina B6.

New RS7 has caught my eye. If I went electric, a Taycan turbo.

What electronics wise are you looking to upgrade?
I have a 2015 and with a CarPlay upgrade, I can't think of a single feature that a 2020+ has and I want/would find useful that I already don't have. Granted, my 2015 is pretty much fully loaded…

While I love the sexy look of the 6 series, I think my next vehicle is an SUV.
X5, electric Macan (when it gets released), sq8,…

Alpina B6 production ended up 2019, my guess!! 2021 is the rollout of the B8, however, l find the B6 a better looking in & out!! To each their own

It’s mostly that since AT&T is killing their 3G network at the end of January 2022, I will lose BMW connected - live traffic, etc. That annoys me. Lol!

Ah! Yeah, that does suck. I usually used the BMW connected services for sending navigation destination to the car, but with CarPlay i find myself not using even that.
Got the live traffic this year and it's ok :-)

The SQ8 is bad ass. Especially in person. Maybe in a few years I’ll trade my 6 for that.

Even the exhaust is mean. Audi has been stepping up their game in some areas

I recently added the Q8 to our stable. First non BMW in a long time. Bought it for non-performance reasons. It is no BMW for sure, but much more comfortable, much more legroom, and much better looking than any current BMW. BTW, I still kept all my 6's!
