My 2012 650i convertible (F12) is stored during the winter season and the negative terminal is disconnected from the main battery to prevemt drain. Is it advisable to also disconnect the negative terminal from the auxiliary battery?

We have an aux battery? Where is it? If I stored mine in winter - I drive it all year - I would put a battery tender on it, not disconnect it.

If you have an aux battery, then yes...disconnect it as well. Aux batteries were used with certain combinations of engine and gearbox (weight on the front axle), like a more powerful electromechanical power steering system fitted for the option (SA2VH) "Integral Active Steering". The electromechanical power steering can be operated with 24 Volts.

The car is still powered when you have multiple batteries & one of the batteries cables is removed. If you have dual batteries...the aux battery is G6 in the illustration below. Not all f06/f12/f13 six series have aux batteries:

I drive my current 650 convertible with xDrive year round - main reason for getting the xDrive. I had a 2004 645 that I stored in the winter with a battery tender. However, be careful who you store it with. I had two dead batteries in the 4 years I stored with them!

I think the aux battery is required for all electric "power" steering cars (as a safety item). Mercedes Benz also uses an aux battery in the cars with electric power steering.

Makes sense as I have the active steering option.

Tender is way to go. I put mine on it if it sits for several days.
