A legal seat in a pinch.
I agree it appears to be a lap belt. What I am trying to figure out is where the male part of the clasp is. And if the black apparatus on the drivers side isn't it, then what is that thing?

Furthermore, regardless of where the belt and clasp are, there doesn't appear to be more than 8-10 inches there for someone to sit.

Took a photo to show it's a three-point belt when fully 'installed':

Aha! Thank you very much southlight. That was the missing link I needed.

Now perhaps you can find a female with the body proportions of a Barbie doll to prove that it is indeed usable.

+1

Even though I think the Gran Coupe is a beautiful car, I agree with BlackJetE90. The CLS is going to be more than fine.

The CLS550 has 402hp/443 lb-ft compared to the 640i GC 315hp/332 lb-ft and it has a base msrp of $4700 LESS!!! Not to mention that to make the 640 GC look comparatively good you would have to add the $4200 M-Sport package.

I'm sorry but what the hell where BMW thinking when they priced this car???

BMW is in a different postion than Mercedes with their product lineup. There is no two-door CLS model. Instead, Mercedes' coupe lineup is a bit fragmented and leaves a rather large hole between the E Class Coupe (which is really just a CLK with a new name, and thus carries as much C class DNA as it does E class DNA) and CL Class coupe.

BMW's 6 series Gran Coupe, on the other hand, is literally a stretched version of their 6 Series Coupe. So, from a marketing perspective, BMW believes that it carries the clout to be priced in line with that model.

One might just as well ask what Mercedes is thinking with the price of the CL Class. It is many, many thousands of dollars more expensive than the 6 Series Coupe. The answer, then, is similar to what I say above - since it is based directly off of their flagship S class sedan, it can be marketed as a step up from that model.

As far as the SLS is concerned I think the M6 coupe has that covered and for less coin. I agree BMW needs a rear mounted mid engine, low roofline, high HP, two seater.....

Oh and a X5, X7 or X(whatever) that seat atleast 6 adults.

That is all well and good. It doesn't change the fact the CLS and 6er GC are direct rivals. Everyday car shoppers will see the Mercedes badge, cheaper price tag, ttV8. You can add the Designo interior on the Benz and still be under the 640GC msrp.

Actually, the CL is in a higher class than a 6-series. It exudes a more stately and exclusive feel. There is a reason it comes with V8 and V12, while the 6er comes in 6 and 8 cylinder versions. I put the CL600, C63, C65 right up there with the Bentley Continental GT.

The direct rival of the GC is Porsche Panamera, not CL, CLS or A7. I think this is a smart move by BMW.
