M6 Coupe or Gran Coupe
Hello,
New here, and looking to be a new BMW M6 owner (have an AMG now). I am looking at either a used Coupe or Gran Coupe and need help. There is no info to compare which is faster, though weight indicates the Coupe is likely to be faster, I am not sure if BMW is playing tricks and the Gran Coupe engine is actually producing even more output than the Coupe? The magazines say the Gran Coupe is faster? Besides that, how big does the Gran Coupe feel to drive or to park? If the cost different is not a problem which one should it be? Thanks so much! |

I love my GC and I have no kids. I originally planned on the coupe and then something struck me about the GC where the lines just looked sexier to me. Sure it's a little longer and half inch taller than the coupe, but it sure does turn more eyes.

I absolutely love my m6 gc. Never looked at the coupe as I needed four doors for my kiddos...they both look great imo, but, coming from a coupe, I find the back seats always a pain when going out with 4 adults. I am not sure on performance, as I'm sure there is a difference but I'm sure it's negligible.

I had the same battle and the conclusion was.
If your doing M6 do the Coupe If you want 4 door do the M5. The GC is sexi! But long.. P.s I picked the Coupe F13 M6 Sakhir Orange I get compliments ALL the time!! P.s I'm 6"3 210lbs and on rough days it kinda sucks going in and out but oh is it worth it. Once Inside plenty of room! Can't go wrong with any really. Good luck! |

I have a 2016 M6 GC (tanzanite blue, canyon brown leather, manual). On the coupe vs. gran coupe, I do have my 11-year-old son in the rear often, and he will get taller, not shorter; plus I have adults back there sometimes, including my ancient parents and inlaws. Getting in and out of the coupe's rear seats is just not really possible without some contortions. It's both the rear doors and the fact that the GC is a bit longer, which I think basically all goes toward rear legroom. Both versions look great, but I find the gran coupe far more rare, and in that sense special.
I parked next to a new M5 in my office parking garage on Friday, and the comparison was not good for the M5. The M5 is a super-special car, with all the performance, and I love it. I wanted an M5 for a long time, but when it started to be the right time, out comes the M6 GC! With an M5 sitting next to the M6 GC, the M6 looks so much more exotic. It looks wider, lower, and the fastback roofline just looks gorgeous. If you want one that looks normal, so strangers don't have any idea what you're driving, the M5 is good. (I used to want that stealth car; but then I decided I don't care what other people think of my car, and I just found the M6 beautiful and classic.) The M6 does feel long sometimes, like when backing up in my narrow alley; but the cameras on the birds-eye view make it pretty hard to screw up backing up while parking. So I'm biased, but get the M6 GC. |

Biased here, but M6 GC hands down. You should test drive both M5 and M6 GC. Same engine but drives differently. M6 GC has better handling and sportier ride IMO. There are also M5 members who can comment on this. Looks wise, M6 GC is just a sexy car. Sure the coupe looks good as well, but there is just something the GC that makes it that much more sexier. I guess one of the drawback to the GC is it's length, which makes parallel parking a bit difficult. But the bird's eye camera definitely helps. Overall, you won't regret it. You'll be glad you got a GC. I was looking at the M5 as well, but after the test drive and side by side comparison, it's a no brainer.

couldn't agree more...there is a reason why they developed this sector of cars...audi a7 series, mb cls series, panamera and the 6 series GC...they (thankfully : ))realized that people wanted the looks and ride of a coupe but want 4 doors...

Im coming from an M5 to an M6 GC. Hands down one of the best looking cars out there. Engine is the same so whatever weight difference between the 3 is negligible. Gran Coupe all day twice on sunday.....and i have no kids either

The GC is only 4.5" longer than the Coupe, and all of the extra length goes to the back seat legroom.

Both cars look amazing on the road - it's a toss up for which is sexier. Some will say the sportier coupe, some will say the more sleek sedan. For me, if I do not need four doors then I am sticking with a coupe. No need to add on any unneeded size and weight especially on the already amazingly heavy M6.

If you are planning to ride with more than 2 passangers, definetly M5 or M6 GC. The M6 coupe is shit at that point. Unless the 3rd passanger has no legs lol.
Other than that, the coupe is much better looking than the gran coupe, I can post pictures of my coupe if you like |

BTW, GC is not a sleek sedan. and in terms of legroom, the M4 coupe has more legroom in the backseat than the M6 coupe because the multi-function seats are so thick. |
