iOS 17 and iDrive 8 - No Apple Maps on HUD

Updated my iPhone to iOS 17, and lost Apple Maps directions on HUD.

There is a bug, because some times you can see a little icon (which should be a large image) with directions, but I only saw it twice or so, as opposed to all the time, especially through every turn.

Not sure if removing the car from Apple CarPlay on the phone and reconnecting will fix it, I think it'll take a combination of iOS 17 update and iDrive 8 update to fix it.

So, if you like that feature and have iDrive 8, don't update to iOS 17 just yet. Wait for 17.1 or something that maybe fixes it.

If you have fixed it yourself, let us know how please.

Dang...too late... I guess I could restore from backup, or try using Google Maps instead.

Let us know if google maps is also broken or if it’s working. Don’t use it, and the HUD never worked with Waze.

Just another example of why I never update to a new major level of iOS until several incremental updates later which may take weeks or months before they are released. New versions of iOS either break something/s, are full of bugs and/or drain the shit out of my battery. No thanks.

This is true and usually offset by new features. I’m liking a few new things.

It’s interesting that now there’s crossfade in Apple Music. This feature existed in the Apple Music app for Android for over 2 years… lol just now coming to its own OS.
But it’s a bit off topic lol

Haven’t tried Google Maps before. Was a long time Waze user and was swayed to using Apple Maps for the HUD interactivity.

Confirmed Apple Maps no longer showing in HUD, but does still show in the gauge screen. Google Maps does not show in the gauge screen (not sure if it did before?) and also does not show in the HUD.

I can say this is not an issue on I drive 7 cars. I still see directions in the HUD on my 2020 G20 with iOS 17.

We have to wait for iDrive 8 to be more rounded... It's not super final it seems.

I was getting some directions in the HUD after work today. But it was very erratic. As was the Apple Map on the infotainment screen and gauge cluster. It was literally all over the map (pun intended).

I didn’t look at my phone to see how it was behaving. But thinking about it now, I wasn’t getting the usual vibrations on Apple Watch either.

FYI Google Maps has never been supported in the HUD/Cluster on iOS. I'd be thrilled if Google got their act together an added the functionality to Maps and Waze.

I would always just delete my pairing and redo it after a major OS update. only takes < 2 minutes

17.0.1 is already out! LOL two days it took...

Installed. Will try again tonight. If it doesn't work, I'll unpair and repair.

do you notice that on the pro max or bigger iphone, on ios 17.01 the settings can no longer viewable in landscape mode?

on ios 16, when you place your phone in landscape and open settings, it is viewable in landscape, but not on 17.0.1

All good here 17.0.2 on a 15 pro. ( 0.2 is exclusive to the 15s btw, 14 and below stay on .1 )

On a 12 Pro Max with 17.0 and not having any issues with idrive 8
