Bang & Olufsen question

I have a 2014 650i convertible I bought used, it have the bang and olufsen option, none of the grills have the B&O branding and it doest have the dash pop up speaker, I do see the B&O option in the setting to turn on/off. Where ther different version of the sound system? I confused.

I've never seen any such thing. Can you post a pic of one of the large door speaker covers? Are the speaker covers aluminum or plastic? Real B&O covers are aluminum. Also, can you post your VIN. A quick decode of your VIN will say what system your car came with. I would guess somebody replaced some but not all speakers to make it look like B&O, but the missing B&O logo is confusing.

I looked. As I suspected, it did not come with the B&O system. What makes you think it did? Did somebody tell you that?

If you don’t have aluminum speaker covers (that kind of looks like a cheese grater)…or the pop up B&O dash speaker…nor the option listed on your decoded VIN…then the B&O setting in iDrive was probably coded to upgrade the sound setting by a previous owner. Lots of owners have coded the B&O studio & expanded sound stages to replace their HK Logic 7 settings in iDrive.

The B&O speakers grilles are also subtlety illuminated when the headlights are turn on.

Those kind of reports from a seller are not necessarily reliable. How it got generated is unknown. I assume that none of your speaker covers are silver aluminum, they are just black plastic mesh? I cannot answer why the B&O option is in your iDrive menu. Perhaps it’s there as a dummy option even for cars that do not have it. I can’t check that for you because my car does have the B&O. Maybe someone else will respond. If that list was provided to you by the seller then it was falsely represented and you might have grounds to return the car if it’s a big deal to you. You no doubt bought the car “as is” but it’s a different issue if the car was affirmatively misrepresented.

The grills are aluminum, the list is from bumper.com a service like CarFax. It doesn't bother me, and the seller never implied it did have it. He was an older gentleman who to me wouldn't bother with coding the B&O option.

My bad for thinking the standard grills are plastic. But those are the standard grills. The B&O grills are heavy plates of silver aluminum with round holes that look laser cut.

But I will also note that that bumper.com report is wrong in many respects if it is supposed to be a list of what your car has. It says you have Adaptive Drive and Integral Active Steering but the car does not have either. What you posted does not actually say what it supposed to be. If it's just a list of options that were available, that's a different thing.

Ditto…those are HK speaker grills. See my post above for what the aluminum B&O speaker grilles look like. The top pic is the B&O speaker grills…the 2nd pic (in my post above) is the HK speaker grilles.

Your previous owner obviously coded the B&O EQ etc.

I have the HK system. On the TONE page, there is nothing referencing B&O.

Yeah..the HK system has a box to check/uncheck to initiate its (DSP) LOGIC7 Surround...which is the HK system's digital enhancement. The B&O has a DSP selection for STUDIO or ENHANCED...these features are in addition to the EQ setting for both systems.

B&O: DSP & EQ Settings (these B&O selection can be coded on even if you have the Harmon Kardon system...which is probably what has happened to the OP since he doesn't have the B&O speakers or option code in his VIN build sheet)
