Tinting - limo or 20%?
I am going to tint the rear passenger glass and rear window of my 640i GC and was wondering if anyone had any opinions to share on the darkness of the tint. The car is white which makes the tint look awesome, but with the power shades I was thinking the darkness wasnt as important since upping the power shades will effectively turn them full.
Anyone have any thoughts on tinting with the power shades? |

Mine is 30% all the way around. I told my guy I wanted it legal, plus I want to be able to see out of it.
From the outside, you really can't make out the person on the inside. It does cut out the heat from the sun tremendously though. My son has limo tint on his 540 and anytime I get into it I think the rear view mirror is pointed at the back seat. Way too dark for my liking. Here is my AW with 30%, unfortunately the front windows are down, but the rears are also 30%: |

Limo tint is really far too dark from a safety standpoint and from a perception standpoint. It screams "I have something to hide", like you're a criminal or something. Doesn't even look classy. 20% is perfect in terms of looks and privacy. Visibility is maintained. 35%, which is the max legal amount in many states, is not a bad option either, but definitely has limited privacy.

I did 5% all around on my truck and it was way too dark at night or any time I couldn't drive with my windows rolled down. I'm thinking I'll do 15-20% on the Bimmer.

I always do 20% on all my cars. Legal in NY is 75% so its a ticket regardless but in my opinion, a small price to pay for the appearance and convenience.

I went 35% all around (except for windshield) and ride with the privacy screens up. This way the front always looks lighter and the back is darker due to the screens. Less hassle with the cops in NY.

I got 5% on rear screen, and 20% on rear windows. Can still see inside on a bright day through the 20%, maybe im the only one who would prefer limo black to all of the rear...will probably change it as it ages at some point. As for the worry for the rear screen being too dark at night - you can see headlights perfectly fine...

I would recommend 20%.
I have 20% all around on my GC and it’s perfect. Not too dark that it impairs visibility, but just dark enough for privacy and keeping the interior cool and protects from the sun 🌞. I have a friend who has limo tint on their Tesla, and when I tell you….it’s super dark at night, especially when changing lanes and reversing. It’s so bad that they have to roll their windows down to reverse. With the design of the 6 series (which impairs visibility even with non-tinted windows), I would not dare place any tint that is super dark like limo or 5%. |

I did ALL the glass with ceramics-even sunroof. Very important in Calif sun.
Staggered from light to limo dark on rear glass. the car can sit in direct sunlight and only gets to 90' tops no UV. 750.00 lifetime. |
