G30 540i or F06 650i. Which?

Gents,
If you were in my shoes, what would you go with? The 2 cars in question are a 2018 G30 540xi vs 2016 F06 650xi. I previously had a F06 640i but the interior just wasn’t cutting it for me. I’m into all the new bells and whistles when it comes to tech but then again it’s not a “ wow “ factor for me as far as exterior goes.. help!

You don't say what 640 interior you had that wasn't cutting it for you or what it is you did not like. Many 640s are virtually identical to 650s inside, while others have those standard seats and a lot less leather. But if it was the overall look of the interior you don't like, then I don't know why you would even consider another one.

I guess it’s just the body design that makes me want another one. Plus I had the pre LCI. The one I am looking at is a LCI. Not much of a difference besides the headlights and navi..

Personally, I would never buy a car for its exterior if I didn't like the interior. The interior is where you live. That's why I always think it's kinda funny that 90% of the "pics of my car" threads are just exterior shots.

Like women, shop from the outside buy from the inside. Sometimes you still make a huge mistake...

I don't get it...you had a 640 and didn't care for the interior...the 650 is the exact same depending on options. Also, the G30 being a newer generation will have more of the "bells and whistles" you say you like. You'd at least have to step to a 2017 F06 to get the newer gen of idrive. I think you already answered your own question.

Now for me, it would be no brainer. I had an F10 and now an F06. I've had a G30 as a loaner. The F06/6 series is just so much more special in every way IMO. The exterior certainly has more of a wow factor based on both shape and exclusivity. And although the interior will have less bells and whistles than the G30, the look is still more special and high end. Finally, the sound of the V8 (especially if you swap with some M6 mufflers) is gonna blow the 540 out of the water!

I agree with BMPowered-
Took my car in for service and they gave me a fully loaded- I mean fully loaded G30.
After a day fooling around with the new tech-its nice especially the huge screen and the graphics-just the whole interface was a pleasure to interact with.
Honestly-give me my FO6 back-in a hurry. Maybe a M5 would have made me wanting them to keep my car a little longer.

I was trying to convince myself to get back into the F06 realistically.. I ended up going with the G30 for now. The F06 exterior is what I love the most that’s why, but once inside it’s “ meh “ but outside? It’s “ wow “. I’m more of a tech kind of guy. I have massage seats, cooling seats, gesture control etc and it’s something I felt is what I needed/wanted.

When I was shopping, there was definitely a difference in the leather to which I completely disregarded any 640i build because the leather quality in the 650 is so much authentic feeling and it really feels and smells different. Anyone saying that 640 and 650 interiors are identical clearly have never felt the leather inside of a 650.

The F06 is probably one of the best looking sedan in modern history. I'm surprised you didn't like the interior. To me, the interior was one of the most beautiful an any BMW ever. The flowing waterfall design with the nice materials and high-end finishes is somewhat timeless. The only thing that will date it is the technology. But for now, and has all the tech that anyone needs. So if you fancy all the touch screens and virtual gauges and what not, then you will always need a new car every few years.

Imho it is the same interior. My neighbor has a 650i GC and it’s identical. I mean mine was kind of worn at the time but a good detail would of done the trick.

It’s very good looking, indeed. I just wish they put the interior of the 6 series GT into the GC and it would of been a PERFECT sedan but I’m a tech kind of guy. That’s why I went with the G12. It checked off everything I wanted and some.

I am a tech guy. With CarPlay aftermarket box, I find myself missing absolutely nothing. Granted, my GC has pretty much every single option but night vision and self-park.
Newer gen BMWs i find almost over-engineered - harder to navigate but not necessarily "better" (whatever better means here).
