Finally got the brake fluid flushed. I feel a big difference. Less pedal travel, more consistent feel. And now the car is being much less of a pain in the ass. The reminders were getting on my nerves. I got them from the car every time I started it, several emails from BMW and also the dealer reminding me, reminding me, reminding me.

How often do we get a reminder for the brake fluid flush? I don't recall ever seeing it?

Found this article. Says every two years, or 30K miles.

2 years is the recommend interval on most all cars. The reason is not because the fluid wears out per se, but because brake fluid absorbs moisture, which lowers its boiling point and corrodes internal brake components. But I have never noticed any difference in braking after a flush. You may have had some air in your lines.

There is also a cheap brake fluid moister meter you can buy on Amazon. I use it to check my brake fluid periodically since sometimes I do not use the car for an extended period. Humidity is high here in Houston, so it is worthwhile to double check it once and while/

If you go to the service screen in iDrive and scroll down to BRAKE FLUID…it will show the month/year that the service will be due.

If there’s a green “OK” next to the listed service…then the service isn’t due for a while. If there’s an AMBER symbol next to the service…then the service is coming due and you’ll see the month/year and mileage the service will be due. If there’s a RED symbol next to the service…then the service is OVEWRDUE and the month/year is shown when it was due.
