Hopefully the Comp will get the 6MT as well!

I wouldn't be concerned about the bucket seats not being consider as an option for now. The G80/82 bucket seats will fit the G87 so worst come to worst, pay for a new set and then pay again for your dealer or your workshop mechanic to install.
The CF buckets are $26-32k (parts only) after the fact and depending upon where you look. Unless you can find someone that is willing to swap or can find a G8x that's been totaled and get a deal on a part out that isn't a reasonable option.

IMO if they are testing the M2 Competition with the carbon fiber bucket seats then the competition model will probably have them as an option.
Should consider the possibility that the Carbon Buckets in the G87 are not identical to those currently offered in other models. Would require a different option code.

Thanks for the information!

Serious bummer about the lack of carbon buckets for the M2 however if so.

I like the rest of the car from what we can see, but the dash is complete trash. Sigh.

I see that this is the natural direction now, but having no V8 in the highest line of "X" cars, that is labeled as "M", seems strange to me. I am no expert of the automotive industry, but I was expecting a power train that will be shared with upcoming M5, which by expectation was V8 + electric drive, delivering around ~800HP. Makes sense for M5 and would also make sense to power a car that is a competitor of Tesla models delivering 1000+HP.

But on the other hand, I hope I will be able to put some more Ms to my garage before the era of ICE is over.

I'm glad everyone wants BMW to at least give us the option for bucket seats who cares if it pushes the cost to the M3 and M4! Also don't make the same mistake with the comp auto only

@ynguldyn

Really appreciate all this info.

Very excited about M2 as potential addition to my fleet or maybe replace F80 M3, a few questions.
- Do we know when there will be M2cs? I would imagine it would have the CF buckets.
- Will M2 also get rear floating caliper?
- Any chance of DCT?
- The dash is a real deal breaker for me. It just doesn’t fit a performance car. Any chance it will be different layout? I wish there was a analog cluster in center like Porsche does for 911 and Lexus for LC500.

Are there any special M models for 50th Anniversary or is it all just trim packages on the existing M cars?

It's only like a what, $3500 option or so? Believe me, those seats are worth it. I looooved them.

I could of course love the M2 without them, but that dash....holy hell. I absolutely despised the digital gauges in my G82, I'm not sure I could go back to anything like that (which sucks because that's what everything is likely to be going forward).

So this seems to be the non- Competition variant? Then I would expect a torque also in the 550Nm range as with the G80/G82 non-Comp models.

What about the M2 Comp. then? 480-490 hp (+30hp seems to be plausible for a Competition variant)?
But at what torque??? If it still keeps the low torque number of the 473hp non Comp G80/G82, also the M2 Comp. could be provided with the MT option.
If torque goes rather 600Nm+, then M2 Comp will be a ZF only model like M3/M4 Competition ...
They'll sneak it in as close to M3/4 non-comp models as they can without pulling sales from the more expensive model!

Latest compiled info for each model [from the Future BMW Models Info Thread]:

G87 M2
  • Production 12/22-07/29
  • Production only at SLP Mexico
  • Same S58 as G80/G82 under the hood, tuned to 455hp. RWD - of course.
  • Will be available with a manual and an automatic. Most options will be the same as G80/G82, and I don't see much of that decontenting that was done with the original F87 compared with F80/F82. Though ceramic brakes and bucket seats seem to be missing, all the drivetrain and suspension things are the same as G82, and even carbon roof will be an option. The wheels will be 19" front and 20" rear, G87 specific design. The first four months of its production will fall into the "M 50th anniversary" period so expect the initial run to become somewhat collectible. And the new dashboard will be standard from day one.
  • G87 M2 Competition will indeed be called "M2 Competition".
See G87 M2 spy pics: https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1844099

G09 XM
  • Production: 12/22-11/27
  • Expected model lineup: a 45e hybrid and two different gas engines.
  • 650hp, likely with S58 used in a hybrid setup for the first time, seems to be the only model that will be offered at intro.
  • Notable standard M equipment: diff, dark blue sport brakes (can choose red or black as options), seats, seat belts, carbon fiber trim. It'll get next level driving assist in mid-2023. Wheel options go from 21" all the way to 23".
See XM spy pics: https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1760949
Rough guess, when will the M2's start shipping? I assume January '23?

(I'm down for one of the first to hit Texas, so it won't have far to go)

Seriously stupid question, but if I was interested in collecting it in Mexico and driving home, will 'Mx delivery' become a possibility?

You wouldn't make it 5 miles until the cartels hijacked your brand new M2.

No more DCT and the new dash for iDrive 8 will be it. Remember, BMW is trimming costs and investing the savings into R&D for EV. Economies of scale is BMW's moto these days, as many common parts as possible saves money among the the product line.

The R&D from the M5 trickles down to the M3/M4, then to the M2.

Only thing analog in a 911 cluster is the tachometer. Everything else is digital.

Save a little longer and Buy a new porsche GT4 RS

A real drivers car. A car which is developed as a sports car. Low center of gravity, lightweight, small and nimble. Everything a new BMW M does not have anymore.

But at least they “look” normal with the round speedo appearance and are housed in a normal looking instrument binnacle.

Not a cheap looking tacked on continuous screen that looses almost ALL physical buttons.

I am trying to envision them passing off a version of that in the upper class cars. M5, M8 and so on.

Another point....I'm LESS concerned about the lack of carbon fiber bucket seats, and MORE excited that we're going to get the real performance bits and pieces - - S58 engine straight from the M3/4, adaptive suspension, carbon fiber roof and a MANUAL transmission!!!!!!!

Remember, the e30 M3 didn't have carbon fiber seats (but it was fantastic), the e46 M3 didn't have carbon fiber bucket seats (and it was fantastic), the e36 M3, and F87 M2 didn't have CF seats (and they are fantastic).

And make no mistake, the M2 WILL have bucket seats (the only other option would be a bench seat ... lol). But just no guarantee of a carbon fiber option.

Interesting affirmation, I couldn't care less if the back is in carbon fiber or in plastic as long as they old me well and translate what's happening with the chassis to my butt

Yes im aware of that.
The tach is analog so is the SportChrono clock on the dash.
The dash although digital, looks right and mimics the analog dashes of old.

The new BMW design is just a square ipad in front of your face that is not integrated and display is horrendous with very little customization.
It may be fine for their EV cars but for the M cars - just looks really out of place.

Yes, looks like my Cayenne, I am aware it looks nicer than what BMW and MB are putting out. I am not impressed with the Audi digital dash either, but it looks better than BMW's.

You specifically said the 911 dash was analog, so I was making sure people were aware that only the tach is analog. The 992 911 dash looks just like my 9Y0 Cayenne's. I also have sport chrono, and yes that is still an analog second hand.

I don’t mind digital as long as its done right.
The new Nissan Z and BRZ/86 have all digital clusters but they look perfectly integrated and seem to fit the nature of the car. I can’t see how an Ipad screen looks right in a car like M2 when same design is on iX suv.
