Alignment issue
Hi, im trying to determine if i want to purchase a 650i and i had a PPI done which came back that i needed a alignment. Its a 2014 and has 20k miles on it. That doesn't seem to be bad to me, however, when i look at the carfax, it has had an alignment at 3k, 8k, 14k and lots of tire balances and replacements inbetween. That sounds like any issue beyond alignment. Anyone have any ideas? thx

Unless you can determine the rot cause of the alignment issues, you might be buying a money pit. There could be a crack in the sub frame, damaged suspension components or another major frame problems.

yea, after talking to him, thats what he said. He claims he didnt see anything wrong with the frame or suspension and kinda indicated thats what they always recommend and the person that had the car before me may have just done it each time...

Presumably the inspection would have seen anything. I tend to get an alignment when I buy a used car, then only get another if there is an actual reason to. I had one on my 650 at 27,000 miles, and now at 45,000 miles I can still take my hands off the wheel and take a nap on a straight road.

Well, but your PPI came back and the car needs an alignment which they already did 6k miles ago. Unless I’m missing something here, that car alignment is out of whack every 5 to 6k of driven miles. Without a printout, it is hard to tell which one is off but it’s just ridiculous. My advice is to double check and triple check what the hell is going on before you buy it.

So, the service guy leveled with me. It was recommended service based on time, not milage and was probably why it was popping up so much on the carfax. Even though the car only has 20k miles, it is still 7 years old so whenever the previous owner took it to their dealership, they probably just did the full maintenance which includes alignment even through it was only dirven a couple thousand miles in that timeframe.
I dont think he was trying to be deceptive given i wasnt buying the car from that dealership so i dont think he cared one way or the other if i bought it. |

I no longer drive mine much, but my count is.... 9 run flat tires replaced in 5 years, with 6 alignments.
