Just wondering why the M6 forum is so small?

Is it because the F1X platform is so rare? Has such a bulletproof engine? Not a lot of modding?

I'd like to get into an M6 in the near future, and I'm curious how tiny the network is compared to (for example) the E9X M3 community on here.

Any thoughts?

Partly because they are pretty rare and partly because there is so much cross with the M5. The M5 side of the site is much bigger and will answer 80% of what people could be looking for then the M6 side picks up the left over 20%.

There were less than 8,000 F generation M6's produced for NA, across all body variants and years so rarity is a factor. Compare that with the E9x cars - 25k+ were produced for NA.
Another theory - could be to do with the F gen cars typically having a $60k+ MSRP than M3/M4s - making them less accessible to people who want to buy mod/discuss on forums? While the F gen is an enthusiast car too, a large portion of these are leased/company/exec cars originally - so potentially less forum presence.

I own another car with much lower production numbers so that alone isn't the reason - the forum for it far more active and has a really active enthusiast following - so type of car/owner/use purpose are a large factor too. And as @HeyKC said the M5s with the same engine cover a lot of the M6 discussions.

Well, Because these motors are not so common, is one of the reasons to keep them till they ban petrol cars in the UK (from 2030).

I wasn't aware that petrol cars were going to be banned in the UK from 2030. If yes, then we are in for a total transport disaster! There is no way the authorities will have the necessary infrastructure in place for the charging of electric vehicles by that date, let alone the power stations to produce all the extra electricity. Every single street will need digging up to put in larger supply cables as existing house supplies will be inadequate. I think (hope!) you probably mean the manufacture of petrol vehicles...

Just to be specific, sales of of new ICE cars including hybrids would be banned in the U.K from 2030. You can still drive ICE cars from 2030, at least that is what the govt is currently saying. However I would not be surprised if things are made more stringent before then.

Last I heard hybrids would still be OK until 2035?

Unsure if there is added complexity around plug in hybrids and a minimum range or something like that

Banned completely from use? Or just new car sales have to be electric?

+1 for this

Prefer to drive something I don't see all over the place already. I've come across a total of 2 M6's on the road in the 11 months I've owned mine. Couldn't even tell you the amount of M3/4/5's I see

Though seems like a vanity talk. The simple truth is there is no newer car carrying the M6 badge, at least for the foreseeable future. So we would always drive the lates model. The engine in this car is basically the same engine in the current M5/M8.
Our M6 has DCT, M5/M8 have automatic ZF8 (less crisp gear change). Our M6 have hydraulic steering whilst M5/M8 have electric steering, thus the lifeless steering feel in these other cars. IMHO, Our M6 rear view looks nicer than M5 and probably M8

I'd take the M8 if it had a 2" longer wheelbase and 2" more rear passenger headroom, a DCT and a larger fuel tank. All of those things have changed from the M6 and now I'm thinking 812 SFT and B3 or B5 Touring - I need to go to 2 cars to replace the M6.

Unfortunately that combination was never offered by BMW. LCI cars could not be ordered with the 6-speed and the comp pack. It was allowed pre-LCI, though. If you want LCI it's one or the other. Of the two options, the comp pack is much more easily found than the manual transmission. Good luck!

I actually just called the BMW dealership to confirm this (not that I doubt you, just wanted to be sure), and when they checked their system, they said that it shows that Comp Pack and 6spd on a convertible was available only on 2016 (which is the first year of LCI).

And come to think of it, there was one I lagged on AutoTrader months ago, which I do believe had these options, and it was a 2016.

Either way, the person I spoke with said they would contact their BMW national sales dept to double check this as well.

I'll update if/when I hear back.
