From someone who has owned several cars and trucks over the years, and is very picky on the light output I can confirm the BMW LED lights on the 3/4 series is more than adequate with one note. When I got my 4 series at the end of 2013 they LED on the drivers side was so low they were like candles. Took it back to the dealer they re-aimed them and these are by far the best stock lights I have ever had. My Ram 2500 with after market HID's is a close second (with light bars on its would be #1 but not street legal). Another thing to note is BMW isn't allowed to use their anti-daze LED's in the US these are far superior than what US spec cars run and I think DOT needs to take a good hard look and change the standards.

people with LED, code variable light distribution and NGHBA, you will probably have the best illumination on the road.

I wasn't saying anything negative about the F30 3 series - just that there was once a much larger "difference" between the 3er and other (relatively) small sedans.

I just think the "difference" is shrinking, that's all.

Huh. Well all I know is that I've driven many many cars and the lights in my F83 are the best I've had yet by a large margin. Anyway...

They have the most visibility because they always leave a mile of road in front of them. Too bad Prius drivers can't see the line of cars riding their asses as they're parked in the fast lane.

Hm i usually have the opposite view on prius drivers. They are usually tearing ariund town or the highway at 20 mph above the speed limit everywhere they go. Im not surprised by the outcome as my halogen equipped bmw is straight up dangerous to drive at night in some parts of town. My audi, toyota, and infiniti are all much better at lighting up the road. Audi and infibiti are hid and toyota are halogen projectors.

Maybe NY is an exception to the rule vs WA drivers then as there's a whole Facebook page called Left Lane Prius dedicated to them.

I have the LEDs on my 435. Any other options required to utilize this coding?

If they offer both and some people aren't willing to pay for Xenon's then there is obviously a group of people that don't think they are worth the money. Making them pay for something they don't want isn't going to help anything.

Most of the time when people say something should be standard they mean the company should throw them in for free, not add them to the base car and raise the price of the base car.

Halogens are 20th Century Technology

BMW are an expensive premium brand and it's embarrassing that anything (other than the absolute entry level trim model) still has halogens. If it's about the options upselling profit just make like the 4 series with xenons with paid optional LED upgrade.

Why show case 22nd Century prototype autonomous cars at the expensive of today's 21st Century cars?

Ridiculous

Even though I didn't like the result...but maybe BMW will learn a lesson from ditching the Xenon and keeping the Halogen on the 3 Series!

Come on, Halogens are not available on the 2015 Corolla for god sake!

That's it. You need to code your car. There's a good guide dmnc02 wrote about this. That tells everything you need to do. I'd say, owning an M4, NGHBA is still the best thing I've in the car

As much as the cars cost, they may as well make Xenon standard equipment. It doesn't cost that much more for a projector/Xenon set up. BMW is just being cheap and cost cutting everywhere.

Xenon is standard on the Prius C and that's a sub $20k car! Not to mention LED headlights standard on the COROLLA!

The lights on my F30 are certainly the worst headlights I have ever had. Number one regret on this car purchase. Otherwise the car is fantastic.

Yeah. That's not how that works.

With your statement in bold, you actually just told us that your headlights suck. Your lights AREN'T SUPPOSED TO BLIND PEOPLE. THAT'S BAD. BAD LIGHTS, GO TO YOUR ROOM. That's part of what makes poor headlights. It's not supposed to piss people off. Imagine driving 80 mph towards a sea side cliff and your wife shines a flashlight right into your eyeballs right before the corner. That's what you define as good?

People mistake tons of foreground coverage with "good lighting." I'm glad the IIHS is doing these because I think manufacturers are a bit clueless on what makes effective lights. There's nobody to regulate them really except the government. And that's what led to horrible crash results before the IIHS got involved.

This is good for everyone.

This is what happens to your car brand when you offer very shitty base lights in your entry cars. If you're buying BMW the base at least must be Xenons like 5 series. These are no longer differentiating features, BMW. All new cars now feature LEDs. If you're adding this, increase the price as well. If you can afford your brand, you can afford it. You don't have to steal from plastic quality, lighting quality etc to strip out the car.

I think the Prius only scored well when running everything in bright. Otherwise it to scores low.

Thing sucks anyway.

The thing is with halogen the bigger the reflector the better light output as you can collect and spread more light. The bmw's where designed with LED and HID in mind so the halogen reflector size suffered because their small and theirfore the performance suffered. The Prius has stupid big reflectors so they can spread the light out better.
