Launch Control?

I don't plan on using Launch control, but was just curious if it was available in my car. I have a 2014 650i Gran Coupe with M-Sport package and from what I've read this car should have launch control? I do not get the checkered flag to light up indicating that LC is active after following these steps:

Put the car in Sport+
Move the shifter to the left
Turn DSC all the way off by holding it for about 5 seconds.
Foot firmly on brakes and push the gas pedal all the way in.

Am I missing anything? Any reason why this would not work?

Hi,

The first time I tried it, I ended up doing a little burnout by accident.
But.... This works for me.

1) Car in sport+.
2) Shifter in sport (to the left).
3) Foot 'hard' on the brake.
4) Foot hard on the accelerator (be committed and push it right down to the kick-down switch).

I don't bother touching DSC really.
Hope this helps you!

Thanks. I've tried every possible scenario but it does not seem to work for me. Yes, I've pushed both pedals all the way down after putting the drive mode to sport+ and shifter to the left - first brake, then gas. I will leave it at that as I don't want to submit my car to any punishment. I just wanted to see it in action one time.

Is it confirmed that 640's an 650's have launch control? Has anyone seen the flags in the dash when following this procedure? I don't think we have this feature.

I didnt think this was possible with our 640ds - can this damage the car at all? I normally just floor it and its plenty quick but interested in trying to launch just to see the difference.

Picked my new 640d up 31st march and noticed launch control guide in the cars manual. After running the car in I tried it a couple of weeks ago and a few times since.

Sport + selected gear lever over to sport.. feels weird left foot on brake then right foot all the way down but as soon as the flag comes up release the brake and it absolutely flies quicker than if I just pulled away in sport mode.

My 2014 640d msport never had this neither did my 2012 640d. So glad I have it now

Pretty sure the M-Sport have it (I think as long as you have the Sport+ drive option)

Look at 1:45 of this video

I have a 2014 650 and I had to have Launch control coded on. Now it works as described.

From what I understand, LC has to be activated by the dealer - usually at the fist service. Simple way to check if you have it activated is to search for it in the onboard iDrive manual. If it's not in the manual it's not activated

yep you have to have it coded. I have a 650i convertible msport. codemycar did it in a hotel parking lot along with a long list of other cool features. It's nice, but makes me wince when I use it. I have only used once or twice, and although I'm convinced the LC had nothing to do with it, the car is in the shop for a new diff, and stripped driveshaft. I'll post more about the diff once I get it back.

Here's the coding parameter:
EGS 3000 Applikation_LC / LC = aktiv

Here it is in action:

Once you have it, make sure you use it every time you stop so that people know that you're not messing around:

Is everyone's launch control RPM hovering around 2K? This is in the RWD.

BMW acknowledges that repeated use of the Launch Control process will subject the drive train to extreme stress. I read somewhere that perhaps ten uses may result in the need of a new clutch, at least. Not to mention the cost of tires consumed.

650i does not have clutch since it's transmission is torque converter but I personally did launch control several times (significantly more than 10) with my M6 and nothing bad happened to the clutch!

from a Youtube video, I learned that USA models hover between 1500 and 2000 RPM, while European models hold at 4000 RPM. Google Youtube M6 Launch Control, and you will see lots of interesting videos.

Don't mean to bring back a dead thread, but my SA told me that my car 2014 650xi gran coupe with M-sport does NOT have LC and that the service technician even called HQ to confirm. Was this just a cop out to not activate launch control? Now my warranty is over so I'm assuming I'll have to pay additional costs if I really wanted this feature.
