THIS makes more sense to me. My 335i is a 2nd car, I have a daily driver SUV as well. The 335i sits in the garage and only get's driven if the roads are dry.

Side note, I had to drop her off last night for service. Rain/storms were in the forecast. I was actually a little worried about leaving her in the service shops parking lot overnight. My girlfriend got a good laugh out of that.

My weekender is a 2006 Jeep Wrangler but it has 260,000 miles on it so wouldn't be a good daily anyways.

Absolutely. I used to have a 440i F32 as my weekend car and a full size pickup truck as my daily driver. Now I drive a Chevy Volt to work. I charge in at home on a Level 2 charger and Level 1 at work. My fuel consumption has gone down to 6 gallons per 2000 miles.

On the weekend I drive a large gas guzzling Tahoe around town and enjoy burning 15 MPG of sweet sweet fossil fuel.

One thing I would like to add is I think this varies greatly by location/situation. (maybe this is obvious).

I live in northern Illinois and my round trip commute is 75 miles in relatively heavy traffic and not really fun to drive roads (aside from speed I guess).

The shop I work for, I would usually need to park outside so any "special" car gets dusty and sun beaten all day long just for me to battle traffic on the way home.

...not really rewarding.

So, I have no problem having a comfy daily driver and saving the "special" cars ready to go in the garage for times they can be enjoyed to the fullest.

If I lived in california or some area that my drive to work was low traffic, awesome roads and a carport or garage when I arrived, would probably have only one or two cars.

Good points. Also, at 6'3" I don't want to climb in/out of my low sitting 335i all day, every day. My knees are bad enough as is :-)

I was fortunate to have onsite garage parking at my last employer, which made driving her to work easier to do, and my commute was only 10 minutes.

Yep - have a Honda Ridgeline as a daily beater and take out the M when I feel the need for speed.

Yup, I've got an SUV for the wife and roadtrips. A beater for whomever needs it. An i3 I used to take to work before WFH due to covid, and and M3 CS for weekend/track duty.

I still take the M3 CS out on weekdays for random errands when I feel like having some fun, but it's mostly for track days.

I have a few weekend cars, 911 GTS, F10 M5 and an e39 M5. My daily is a pick up. The two Ms got a combined 3k miles last yr. starting to drive them more lately, even in some rain today.

I do kind of see where the OP is going with this. It's one thing to have a sick weekend car and also a nice daily. But I never understood the point of having some amazing weekend machine and then driving a POS for the majority of the year. I mean you have to start looking at quality of life at that point, lol.

I used to do the weekday beater thing and it eventually got old. Driving an old Honda or VW 90% of the time while you have a beast just sitting in the garage is tough to sort out mentally, let alone justify.

Once I became full time wfh, I decided to consolidate and now my fun car and my daily is an X3M comp. Best decision I ever made.

A daily doesn't have to be a POS. It just has to be comfortable, reliable, and get you from A to B.

Some of my offices either aren't in the best areas, use valet parking, have tight parking spots, bad roads or steep driveways. I would hate to drive my lowered M3 CS with a low and protruding carbon fiber front lip into some of the garages, alleys, and driveways I had to navigate. Not caring or worrying is a luxury in itself.

Right, that's the exact point I'm trying to make though. Having a nice little daily is one thing but if you're dailying a 97 Ford Fiesta with an M5 in the garage, then you're doing it wrong IMO.

I don't have a weekend car but why bother when the M6 can do everything so well?
