So some bad news, we had a garage fire and lost all three vehicles and my rare Ducati. I'm now in the market to replace my BMW 650i grand coupe M sport with an M6. I'm looking at a 2016 and a 2018 competition package. See the links for the two vehicles and I would love any comments of which one he would get and other recommendations out there
2016 non comp https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/share/273103462 2018 comp https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/share/277975124 Were there any technology or other major differences between the two years?

Oh no! Hopefully everyone was okay! In regards to the two cars, I’m partial to the non-comp personally! Only because the mileage was much better (the comp had really high miles in comparison) and they really didn’t change much in regards to options/models. I think they added apple car play in between but not much as far as i know! Good luck with the search!

Hey sorry to hear about that. Hopefully everyone is safe and healthy.
I don't own an m6 yet but have done plenty of research for the past couple of years so I will try my best to explain what I know. Starting in the 2016 model year BMW introduced the LCI model and this came with a horsepower bump for the competition package to 600 hp and torque to 516 lb-ft. This model was also the one in which they introduced a bigger Idrive screen size and the software itself was updated to NBT Evo Idrive 4. For the 17 model year the power remains the same same but the software gets updated to Idrive 5.0. In 2018 power remains the same I drive gets updated to 6.0. Idrive 5 and 6 are largely the same just aesthetically a little different with 6 having larger tiles. I also believe you can upgrade to the newer Idrives from Idrive 4 with a head unit swap. I think there may be ways to get around that and just do it via software but I'm not too sure. I was told over the phone by someone at Bimmertech that if you have a 2017 model year there is no need for a head unit swap to get from Idrive 5 to 6, it can just be done via coding. They also added apple car play compatibility somewhere from 16 to 19 but this is not something I am to familiar with. If you were wondering about the model years prior to 2016 I have some info as well. 2014 was the first year for the gran coupe, and I believe it ran nbt or possibly nbt evo software. In 2015 they made some updates such as a bigger Idrive controller and also the headlights may have been upgraded (I read somewhere that this happened it 2015 but it might have been in 2016 for the LCI refresh not sure). I believe power for the 14/15 competition package was around 570ish. Sorry don't have a solid knowledge of the pre-lci cars, other members fell free to correct. |

Ohh that's hard. The color combo on the 16 is nice and its got low miles also. Only thing is no competition package. I personally would get a car with comp, not for power but because it also upgrades the steering rack, differential, and some suspension components. With that being said the 18 has the comp but its higher miles and price seems high. The 16 is the better deal and its been on the market a while so maybe they will work with you.
I also saw a 16 listed somewhere that was fully loaded with ccbs, comp, and night vision. It had low miles, was san marino blue on silver stone, listed around 67. Let me know if you would like me to find it for you. |

I would go with the 2016. The interior is far better than the 2018 (wood trim ew), way better mileage, and in my opinion the comp package is only good if you plan to keep the car completely stock and want to hold value. You can stage 1 flash tune the 2016 and add either springs or coilovers and you’ll have more performance than a comp pack. You can also upgrade the screen with this and have even more functionality than the 2018 https://4x4shop.ca/product/2010-2017...al-nbt-system/

A 2012 Aston Martin Virage. Silver exterior with a cream truffle interior, brown top. It was stunning.
Only made 25 for the us in that combo

I have a '15 SMB Grand Coupe with that same Opal White full Marino leather + CCB's and it's a winning combo. The car listed is pretty low miles which would make me want to get a good PPI as sometimes enthusiast owned cars with a tad more miles can tend to have common issues addressed. |

Oh fuck! These are mere possessions and can be replaced.

For idrive versions, it goes by production month, which have spanned the same model year. So be careful with your assumptions of a model year and thinking you're going to get a certain updated idrive.

Sorry to hear about the fire. Glad everyone was ok. Nice spec on this one, but I don't see a VIN number posted which to me is a red flag that the seller could be hiding something. Definitely get a Carfax report and PPI from a reputable bmw shop on any car you choose. FYI- You can also check the options on any vehicle by entering the VIN at bimmer.work. |

I never saw the appeal of the comp vs non comp. so far the only real differences i have seen between comp and non comp hardware wise is the sway bars and shocks. the rest is programming.
if you are going to modify the car in any way, get the non comp. if you are going to lower it at all/change anything on the suspension, get the non comp. that being said my opinion on the car recently viewed the SMB gran coupe is a very nice car.
