S58 with 48V mild hybrid is probably the most you will see from the G8x and G87.

B48 driving through a normal gearbox (perhaps hybrid ZF8) to power the rear wheels and a small electric motor at the front?

So, sure, if you had no plans to buy an EV before 2025 anyway, the promises associated with that battery tech might make the decision feel even more comfortable. But anyone ruling out a potential EV purchase in the near term in hopes for breakthroughs right around the corner may want to reconsider.
True, but Toyota is expected to be releasing one this year.

🤷🏽

It's an old mule that's been repurposed. But I guess it's just "cool story bro."

I would LOVE a performance (M) electric BMW that looked like the f2x. Ugh. But we all know that will never happen. Given the i4 and iX, it will for sure be awkward and have hideous beaver teeth front grills.

Cool stuff - as soon as BMW makes an electric M car, with a potent battery life, I'm all in - sans the third pedal, unfortunately..

I wonder if this EV test mule can auto drift also? 🤔

I concur. That ain't got no side exhaust..

And beside, why would BMW need to hide a supposed exhaust, on some abstract mule.

One, who would even care, so why bother with the effort and also, if I'm not mistaken, its a potential fire hazard having an exhaust pipe that close to the plastic side skirts (on a non concept).

Let me just reiterate from my last post:

The optimistic timelines you hear splashed about by the media should be treated with skepticism.

What's being shown this year is a prototype. From the article you pointed to:

Quote:
Toyota plans to be the first company to sell an electric vehicle equipped with a solid-state battery in the early 2020s. The world’s largest automaker will unveil a prototype next year.
And while they intend to reach production in the "early 2020s", until they've demonstrated they've solved the challenges with the technology such as limited number of charge cycles, and until they've nailed down a more firm production timeframe, that too should be taken with a grain of salt.

Should we talk about this as it Was under NDA?
But as with MINI and the Electric JCW GP. BMW admitted privately to experimenting with an existing M vehicle purely for research purposes.
The small footprint of the M2 allows for research into packaging the prototype as well as investigating weight issues etc.
The next M2 remains ICE for now.

It's a big deal to operate a PHE or E Test Vehicle (anything over 48v) without the required identification labels for First Responders affixed to the vehicle (front, rear, sides, top, and bottom). The law mandates it, insurance coverage is invalid without them, and failure to do so is a career ending event.

So either someone is getting fired shortly, the test mule is powered by capybaras, or it's not an EV prototype (the NVH ICE Exhaust sensors and their location are yet another clue)

Ja Ja Ja 😂😂😂

Volvo was known as making the safest vehicles in the world but their contemporary autonomous driving system just stay failing..

Crossing my fingers that BMW does a better job at executing Level 4 of auto pilot.

I am also concerned about the use of Swedish plates.
Standard is Munich or depending on location of the Werk.
Will need to investigate on whether this is officially BMW?
However they could be using local plates to throw off any investigation?

The same set of pictures surfaced on several car websites over the past 24 hours.

Swedish Dealer/Mfr Test Plate isn't surprising as it allows operation from housing to the test grounds (insurance coverage for non-compliant vehicle). The DE Emissions Disc in the windshield can be read with a decent resolution photo.

If you dig into it, I have complete confidence Skunkwerkes is at the end of the trail.
