Used the below seen long nose vise grip gingerly to get the piece out of the existing cover. Was easy. Snapped right in the new piece. Was a good thing I bought this piece. The BMW tool would not get the old oil filter cover off. Would just slip. I had torqued it on to 40Nm two days ago. Had to use other tools to get it off. Now will go on & off with a 32mm socket. 6mm Hex for the drain bolt.
I imagine there's some sort of gasket at the bottom of that? I might have trust issues but I don't think that's a risk I'd want to take. Is it a crush washer maybe?

I guess it makes sense to be able the filter first. It does get a little messy

To have the drain is helpful/convenient, but to me it is secondary.
The main reason I got this thing was for it is metal and has the nut like appendage for it’s loosening and release. The wearing down of the plastic cap’s architecture led to lack of grip with the removal/tightening tool. The slippage on tightening never left me comfortable for a proper torque, and as a result I believe it was over torqued in order to get the ‘click’ at set value. This led to have slippage of the cap when trying to get it off. Had to resort to using different tools, and having a hassle. I didn’t like the Keystone Cops approach to removing the oil filter. I don’t work that way, whether in my garage or in my profession.

I xDeleted my f06 yesterday!!

I’d say it’s definitely fun... great to get a little bit of slip on fast turns again, and makes city driving more exciting and a novel experience!

I can’t see myself leaving XDrive off all the time though... doesn’t feel any quicker to me (there’s lots of threads debating that on here) but it’s just a fun feature to goof off with, and really enjoyable to change the driving dynamics of the car a bit! The flash took about a minute, so should be quick and easy to go back and forth from time to time.

Be VERY carefully with switching back and forth if your driving hard with rwd only. Tread depth can cause major issues to your xdrive. You start burning the rears and switching back is not recommended.

If I put the boot badge on, my OCD would be off the chart as I'd want it like it came out the factory

Would need another badged car to get the measurements from for the alignment
