2013 640i - 6 speed?
The online builder at bmwusa.com shows its a manual? Is this just an error. I have the real brochure and its stating that the car is automatic only...
I read that the GT was supposed to get the 6 speed variant one day... is that day right now? If so bravo BMW... |

The 640i coupe, convertible, and GC are all 8-AT only. It's a BYO site error.
Only the RWD 650i has the 6-MT option, and I remember hearing that was only 2012 and they wouldn't offer it in 2013. I could be wrong... In short, you're right. The brochure is correct in this case, but the 2012 had some errors as it mentioned things like soft-close and a few other options not available for US spec cars for MY 2012.

You're right! The 640i Gran Coupe is definitely shown with a manual transmission in the photo. Unfortunately, that option is not selectable, so I have my doubts.

Everything I've read about the 6er says the 650i is the only option for the 6MT (i.e. not the 650xi or 640i). I suppose there could be a hidden method to get this, but I think a "misprint" is more likely. BMW is notorious for showing false info that may be inconsistent with the pictures. There are/were apparently other glitches with the BYO site that prevented the combination of some options that are allowed according to the actual build sheets. The MyBMW site also tends to be slow to update and show incorrect info - like mine showed that my car was being built with B&O despite it not being on the official build sheet. Unfortunately, the B&O wasn't a free gift with purchase as my car arrived with the Premium, as per the build sheet.
I could be wrong, but I think it is just a glitch with the system. In general, BMW is getting away from the manual transmissions (i.e. 6MT only for US market on the 2012 650i and M5, reports that after the F10 M5 the only ///M car to get the 6MT will be the M3 - and new 1M/M2 that is rumored). Everything I've read pretty much says that in most cars, particularly the lower volume vehicles like the 6er, the 6MT doesn't sell well enough to make it worth the money required to develop it. The new 8AT is so good that it is contributing to the decrease in 6MT sales.

I've driven DCT and 6 speed manuals to compare on the M3... there is not comparison. One is an AUTOMATIC, One is a stick. auto is faster because of gearing. BUt soon BMW will have its own 7 speed manual with rev matching. Should be as fast as 7 speed DCT in theory. On the road, an auto is always faster. But can it downshift from 7th to 3rd when you want it to. Not exactly. Manual is always faster because the computer must downshift where a human moves a gear. So in the end, manual will never be completely obsolete. But human error dictates manual will die off... |

I believe that is the pic for BMW Assist - maybe concierge? I know I've seen it before, but it's not something I ever use.

Since the f06/f12/f13 platforms have seen their EOP (end of production)…the part database should reveal which models were offered with the manual transmission. Just pull up the manual transmission & click on its 11 digit BMW part number…it will list all of the BMW models it was used in.
Go to www.realoem.com or www.bimmercat.com and search using this part number { 23-00-7-606-343}…you see that it was used in the f12 & f13 650i RWD 6 series and also the f10 550i 5 series: Same goes for the 6 speed gear shift lever (#1 in diagram below)…click on its 11 digit BMW part number and you’ll see the BMW models it was used in:
