Wheel Questions

Purchased a set of OEM M6 wheels (style 409, 20x9, +25 offset) from another member for a winter set (255/35/20). I have an Alpina B6 (F06 xdrive).

Test fit one front and I barely have a business card clearance between the caliper and spoke.

Do I need to run a spacer or am I safe with barely any clearance (spun freely while in the air and drove a little on the driveway without incident)? I am concerned with actual driving on the road/pot holes/snow/etc.

Was thinking a 3mm spacer, but don't want any tire poke.

Obviously, you need more clearance than that.

If caliper is fixed to hub/disc, wouldn't it move in unison?

If more clearance, what is minimum required - 3mm? 5mm? My current clearance to my caliper is a few credit cards in width.

That's true but hard cornering, hitting potholes, etc. will cause the wheel to bend since that's what see's the impact. I don't know what a proper clearance should be but I don't think a credit card thickness (0.82mm for mine) is enough.

I think I will try the 5mm spacers with bolts. Anyone have any recommendations on supplier or does it matter since they aren't truly hubcentric?

How is the wheel going to bend? The tyre will flex, but I doubt that the wheel will bend.

Although a mm of clearance probably isn't enough either.

Install update tonight.

Wheels are staggered offset, +25 and +32.

Fronts:

Tried +25 on front, not enough caliper clearance and a little poke.

Tried +32 on front, not enough caliper clearance and a little sub flush to fender.

Tried +32 on front with 5mm spacer, clears caliper but a little poke.

Tried +32 on front with 3mm spacer, clears caliper (more than a few business cards) and maybe a hair over flush to fender but not poke. This is only option I have.

Rears:

Tried +32 on rear, sub flush of fender.

Tried +25 on rear, maybe a hair over flush to fender but no poke. Only option I have.


Summary:

M6 wheels appear to work on F06, fronts need spacers (paired them with 33mm extended bolts).

I guess very subjective but for me poke would be the tire and wheel past the fender line. The over flush would be just the wheel barely over the fender line but the tire still within it.

I'm no expert on the best way to post pics because I'm old, but I know one way that always works. If you reply to this thread (but not "quick reply") or if you create a new thread, you will get all the various options at the top of the text box. First, save your pictures to a folder. Then in your reply or new thread, click on the "attachments" paperclip icon at the top of the text window. That will open a new window that will allow you to find and click on the images from the folder you put them in then click "upload."
