Market is already heavily depreciated, 8 series likely won't affect 5-6 year old M6 verts. They have fallen 70% in value...

The bigger issue is finding a clean one with that many miles... A lot of the ones that I've seen have accidents reported and just not in good condition... I lucked out with my 1-owner 21k mile 13

hey brother, a fellow M3post refugee here who went from a E90 M3 to a F M6.

Overall, if you're price conscience, the M6 vert is where you want to be. It's the cheapest variant of the M6 on the used market today as depreciation has not be very kind.

You can probably get into a '13 in the low $40s today. But I would hold out for at least a '14. I think '15 is the sweet spot in terms of price and equipment. Here is a summary of changes of the F generation M6:

Across all model years, the steering wheel has remained the same (2013 M5s had the old steering wheel). Really, the only updates thus far in this generation has been and likely remain:

1. headlights
2. idrive
3. ZCP

Things are a bit more complicated on the M5 side - There was even rumors that the base suspension was retuned between 2013 and 2014 and the timing for updates lagged behind the M6.

How noticeable is the iDrive difference between '14 and '15? I'm looking at those two years, but if it's a noticeable upgrade, then I could exclusively look for a 2015.

my understanding is the only difference is the touch interface on the knob. The base software and UI is still NBT. Both are software version "ID4"

You should watch some videos of the operations on youtube. Look up a video with standard NBT with no touch controller, then look up a NBT with touch controller. Remember once you venture into 2016, the UI changed again (ID5 and ID6) as you can tell by the main menu being a left-right icon scroll (like a smartphone app boxes) versus the classic up-down scroll of text that you've seen since idrive was launched back in 2007.

Also, if you get a late model 15 that still has some warranty left you can buy a bmw extended warranty. I would not own one w/o, and my 13 is a great car but has had 4 warranty claims that far exceed what I paid for the warranty.

I think the opposite will happen. With the price of the new 8-series being appreciably higher than the 6, I've actually noticed a firming of prices on the M6 now that it's been retired.

Depending on how important the software changes and change in headlight configuration are to you, there is a pretty big difference in price once you get to a '13 model year.

You can probably find a really nice example in the upper 30's if you look around and wait. If you're willing to buy a car in the winter (which is to say, after the New Year) prices tend to drop again.

Good problems to have, however.
