Fall/winter vacations

Anyone have any plans?
Anyone still anti travel due to COVID.

I’m debating visiting Jersey for the first time since I moved 6yrs ago now that I had my hip replacement and can actually enjoy walking and life in general but I’m just SOOOO comfortable here I have pretty much written off travel altogether

I’m going to the beach for a week the end of September. Hopefully the weather will hold out. I love September on the beach. Clear sky, low humidity i can easily deal with sitting on the beach in a sweat shirt and getting sun on my face without breaking a sweat.

We went to Maine and then traveled down through upstate NY back in Fall of 2018. We really enjoyed it and would go back especially to Maine. Although I have no idea what the deal is in those areas with the rona. So this fall will be staying put here in NC until November when unfortunately I have to go back to FL for some work stuff.

Went to a family friend's off-grid cabin in VT for a long weekend which was nice. Might go back up when the leaves are changing and do some mountain driving.

I used to take two cruises a year with kids. Easy trip for us as we don't have to drive more than a hour to get to the port. However with the covid still being active, and I don't want to wear a mask while on vacation we haven't taken a trip in almost two years now. I also don't want to sit on a plane to Europe wearing a mask either. Maybe spring of next year I'll be ready to travel again.

I haven't travelled internationally since my daughter was born nearly 4 years ago. I'm ITCHING to get out of the states again. Used to do 2-3 international trips a year with my wife pre-child. Between the 2 of us we've got over 500k credit card points just waiting to be used on a nice trip.

Hopefully soon....

Going camping tomorrow somewhere in Tennessee until Sunday and then late October 3-4 days log cabin camping in Asheville NC. Maybe NY for Thanksgiving.

Edit: doing some early planning for a week in Disney October 2022. Probably will stay at the campsites and do at most 2-3 theme parks. Looking forward to renting a golf cart on non theme park days and having nothing but skirt steak, potatoes, asparagus and Corona’s/Jack n cokes.

Actually, we've travelled quite a bit and more planned.

Visited Santa Fe, NM in May.
Went to DisneyLand in August
Rented a houseboat on Lake Powell for the end of this month.
I'm going to Southport, N.C. in October to visit my dad
Going to Universal Studios/DisneyWorld in November

Planning a Caribbean cruise in February '22
Still trying to get to Bora Bora sometime soon to make up for missed 25th anniversary trip that was last year...hopefully next year in May.

FWIW: Yes, we've been vaccinated. No issues so far, but as others have stated it does kind of suck to have to wear a mask in airports/on the jet. We won't go international either if we have to wear a mask all that time...better to just wait.

We're planning to attend the 50th Anniversary kick-off of DisneyWorld in November. Room prices are outrageous though

Was in Curaçao in May/June - hitting Bonaire 1st week of November. Hoping to get 24+ dives in.

Been traveling every other week through this whole thing...so no worries from my end. Just glad to get out of the country every now and then.

My God, I wish you well. It’s going to be so packed that we actually made plans to go there this October but realized a few months ago it would be the 50th. Spent a week there at Coronado Springs back in March and it was crowded. Best time to go is early January but hoping that next October will be decent.

What resort are you staying at?

LOL, actually we're Disney planning pros; we've been going to a park once a year for over 30 years and we know the exact best times to go, things to do, etc.! (In fact, we were at DisneyWorld last November during all the Covid restrictions and had one of the best experiences ever with limited park attendance, 6 foot distancing in the lines, etc. despite the mask mandates)

You are right, - it will be insane but we already had a trip booked to Universal Studios and thought "Well, since we're already going to be there...why not visit the Magic Kingdom and Epcot to see the 50th celebrations?" Those are the only two parks we planned to do (just came back from DisneyLand 2 weeks ago), and for the MK day we would also purchase the Christmas party tickets for the night.

Got a room booked at our favorite resort - Boardwalk. But stupid room price is $654/night. Right now the Universal trip is a done deal but we're still teetering on the whole Disney add-on...

Boardwalk is next to Epcot right? I believe my son and I walked around that area as we were taking the gondolas around which was fun. They brake at the very last second, scared the crap out of us and a week or two after we left, I’ve read that some of them crashed. $654/night is up there. Ever stayed at Contemporary Resort? Ever since I was a lower case g I’ve always wanted to stay there but price has been a factor facing MK. Have fun there and let me know if you see any Stitch stuff in MK, my wife’s favorite character.

We've stayed at just about every resort in DisneyWorld and while the Contemporary is awesome, especially for the monorail access, by far the Boardwalk is our favorite. Not only can you just walk into Epcot (via an entrance next to the England pavilion) but at night they have all kinds of activities in front of the hotel just like they would on the real Boardwalk so there is a ton of atmosphere.

But speaking of Contemporary, Disney is opening a new steakhouse in that resort called "Steakhouse 71", which is named after the year the theme park opened. DisneyLand in California used to have one too called "Steakhouse 55" (also named after the year that theme park opened) but for some unknown reason - they closed it recently and we heard it will not be re-opening.

I'll keep an eye out for Stitch merchandise for you. We loved finding the Lelo & Stitch characters for a photo op but as you probably already know - during the Covid madness you can no longer get a picture standing next to any character - you can only photograph them from like 15 feet away.
